I wrote this little poem a few years ago and it seems that I get to use it most every year from now 'till years end. Enjoy.

By Starlight.

They started their journey to heaven knows where
They started this journey at night
Though they didn’t know where it would lead them
They’d been told you’ll get there by starlight
And as they set out they saw a star in the east
And they followed wherever it led
‘Till one day it brought them to Bethlehem
To a child in a manger bed
There ‘neath the shimmering beams of that star
Offered frankincense, myrrh and gold
And worshipped the Babe, the Beginning, the End
Of the greatest story e’er told.
I cannot explain why the mercy of God
Was extended to mankind that night
Yet it seemed when the three kings looked down at the child
They were seeing creation by starlight.
The Alpha, the Omega, the Beginning, the End,
He was there when it all came to be
With the Father and the Spirit, the Three in One
Then and now and for all eternity.
So this year as you put up your Christmas tree
And on the highest bough place a star
Think back to when three kings travelled by starlight
Bearing gifts to Bethlehem from afar
Remember that the Babe they worshipped
In that Bethlehem stable that night
Is Jesus, Emmanuel, Son of God
And He’d led them to Him by starlight.
Oh star in the east oh Bethlehem star
Your light led the three wise men
May the light of our witness lead people to Jesus
To whom be glory forever, Amen!
