Flirtatious, wakeful mortality...
The mockery, absurdity of death
In light of the Law of Life...
A meditation. copyright 1991
---------------------

Lunar shadows dance mesmerising tantras
in parody of daytime lunacy
the lunacy of daytime parody.
I trip
stumbling unwelcome into the clench
I'll not escape this night...
What fright!

Tattered scraps of eggshell, my skull
litters the musky, motherly turf...
the good, green earth.
I see
mine eyes
among fallen apples
unblinking
beneath the scowling,
hat-dancing raven.

He cries:
"PO!... PO!...BOY!"

Pilgrims progress
single file
toward the temple of my
far-flung tyranny
down finely gilded passages;
naked
they come;
prosperous,
heavy-laden they return with
precious seeds of
invention
deeds and intentions
needs and affections
steadily dismantling,
unravelling the
tight-fisted vortex of my
black hole.

Time looses relevance
Epochs unwind
relatively speaking
sight out of mind.
