In the stillness of night
The darkness overcomes the light

As I walk, in a fog, along streets of cobblestone
I get a feeling someone is here, I am not alone

He is there in the darkness, a ravaging beast
And on lost souls he prays, having his feast

Yet I am not afraid for I know Thou art strong
My trust is in You, that is where it belongs

I hear someone shriek out in terror
Another one gone, another one who made a fateful error

Someone approaches in the beam of moonlight
I stand ready; I won't run from this fight

It is not the beast, just another lost soul
I stop him and say “ You are lost. Let me tell you where to go”

I see the terror in his eyes as they flit around
He sidesteps me and runs, I hear the sound of feet hitting the ground

He laughs a maniacal laugh, it cuts the eriee silence
Then I hear him scream once, then twice. The sound makes me wince

I could have helped him if only he would’ve let me
I could have introduced him to Thee

Onward into the night I go
Holding my candle high, enshrouded by its glow

The glow of my candle is a tiny one
But if you show yours, then maybe others will come

And one by one our glow will multiply
Until it is so bright it will fill the night sky

Then the ravaging beast won't be able to stalk the night
He won't be able to hide in shadows, out of sight

He will be exposed for all to see
And he will be vanquished by the one mightier than he
