Can someone explain what spiritual warfare means? I've heard the term before but not a very detailed explanation. Do all Christians usually believe in or engage in spiritual warfare, or is that something only one denomination does?

I believe that you will get a wide range of answers. I come from an Anglican background and in the churches I've know this is not spoken of much, although occassionally stories are told. I'm assuming (perhaps I shouldn't?) that you are refering here to possession and similar things.
Recently, about 6 months, I have been visiting other churches and trying to learn how they see many things. I found it differcult at first. But as long as their thinking has a bible base, I accept it.
Some of these churches see both the Spirit of our God (and Spiritual gifts) and evil spirits very differently. They are almost constantly in Spiritual battle. They see satan in many people, even in their own congregation - which I find disturbing.
Last night I was reading 1 Corinthians chapter 12. I believe reading the book of 1 Corinthians - especially chapters 12, 13 & 14 - could help you on Spiritual Warfare.
Being constantly in the bible, daily if possible (perhaps a few times a day?) helps build up a picture of God's message/ Wisdom and answers many questions. We must learn to love the whole Word of God and constantly 'murmer his law day and night' as Psalm 1:verse 2 says.
Psalm 1 is beautifully simple. If we are on the right path, we will have God's Spirit and 'bare fruit.' May the Spirit show you bible truth on this question and guide your life. Love SofTy.

Spiritual warfare refers to the battle between good and evil.
Eph 6:11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
Eph 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Eph 6:14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
Eph 6:15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
Eph 6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
Just as in a physical battle soldiers would wear armour and carry one or more weapons, so in our battle against the forces of evil we need to be armed and protected. When the devil tempts or tests us we need to be protected in order to stand firm, and need to be armed to repel the attacks.
In terms of how widely people believe in spiritual warfare, it's often said that one the cleverest tricks the devil has pulled is to convince people that he does not exist at all, or that he is the comical character wearing red leggings and carrying a pitchfork. Although he is a defeated foe and in the name of Jesus we have authority over him (Luk 10:19), he is more clever than many give him credit for.

Hey cats,
This portion of a sermon delivered by Pastor John Piper is informative and motivational. We, as Christians, make war on sin. We are saved by grace, but the fruit of our salvation is a desire to make war on our flesh and the forces of darkness. I still listen to this when I'm feeling defeated, or like I want to stop the fight.
Enjoy!

Spiritual warfare is a large topic but I think the enemy's deadliest weapon is a 5 letter word. D-o-u-b-t. with our faith being his target.
Faith in God's Word serves as both a defensive shield (God's Word believed) to satans missles and serves as an offensive counter (God's Word proclaimed) to dispel his lies.

Spiritual warfare has more to do with obedience to God, no matter how we feel or what happens, than it does with chasing down demons or the devil.
The Bible clearly states that the devil always prowls around looking for somebody to devour, i.e. destroy their lives in however way he can and push them around off the path God has for them, and he always seeks ways to drive a wedge between God and people. And if he can then also drive a wedge between people over the most inane reasons, even better! The enemy knows how to pull our focus off God and onto ourselves, because by nature, people are self-involved and self-absorbed.
But the devil is less than a dog and compares to God like a gnat does to the sun. Which is why he isn't worth focusing on. It's enough to know that he's around, get a general idea of what he does, so you're aware, and then put your focus on Jesus, and leave it there. Know thine enemy is good, but know thine God is infinitely better. You're going to encouter resistance as you pursue God, because everything that really matters is found in Him alone. So don't be surprised when it happens, and keep right on trucking. :)

1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
When you watch a nature documentary about lions and how they attack you can see why it's so important to keep praying and keep going to church even when you feel God is distant.
When a lion attacks a herd of zebra (or a herd of anything else, for that matter), it chases them this way and that. As the lion chases left the herd moves right, as the lion chases right the herd runs left, and so on. Sooner or later one animal gets it wrong and breaks away from the herd, and the lion then takes that one down.
The lion doesn't care which of the herd it takes, it just wants one. Any one will do, and whichever one it can get to break away from the group is the unlucky one. In the same way if the devil can isolate us from God and from God's people it becomes much easier for him to take us down.
