Hi, I've never posted here before so I'll introduce myself a little. My name is Wendi, I'm 21. My husband is 26 and a SSGT in the Air Force, we are currently stationed in England. We just welcomed our first daughter in October and are very excited. Now on to the reason for my posting. I have not been a very religious person and somewhat unsure of my beliefs for quite a while, ever since i was a very early teenager. It had a lot to do with the church I attended and that particular group of people being very intolerant and judgmental. It all made me very uncomfortable. However, lately, mostly since having my daughter I've been feeling.. different. I feel sort of like somethings missing and also with being so far away from all my family and friends I feel as if I need extra support and help. I feel like my beliefs are becoming more clear to me and I feel like I need it. I've never been baptised and I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to the Bible.. I have a very hard time understanding it. I know that most groups are probably nothing like the one that I attended and I want to go to church but I'm feeling very nervous to put myself back there. I'm also worried because I'd have to bring my daughter but she can be a fussy baby.. where I used to attend they were VERY rude about fussy babies. I thought about calling the chaplain and even dialed the number and hung up when he answered because I felt silly as I don't really know what I wanted to ask of him, just as I don't really know what I'm asking of you. Maybe just prayers and reassurance? Anyway, thank you all for any replies or help or advice you can give me. I really appreciate it as this has suddenly become really urgently important to me.

Wendi,

First off, thank you and your family for serving our country. Wives don't usually get the thanks, but they often carry a huge load while their husbands are away. I hope the Lord protects your husband and keeps your family strong while he's away.

It sounds like the Spirit is working on your heart. The important thing to remember is that you're not getting religion, but coming to a relationship with someone who loved you so much that he died so that you don't have to. He's closer to you than you can imagine, and knows every thought that goes through your mind. When Jesus becomes our savior, he should also immediately become our Lord. When God works rebirth, he gives us a new heart. We start loving the things God loves and hating the things God hates, namely sin. He continues to work in us until we leave this world and enter his glory, where he fully destroys our sinful nature so that we can be in perfect communion with him forever.

When the Spirit first worked in me and I needed reassurance, a great Christian brother told me of the prayer in Mark 9:24, which is, "I do believe; help my unbelief!" Prayer builds faith, as it is an exercise in trusting the one who can accomplish all things.

My advice for finding a church is that you go slow. It's a difficult process, but taking the time up front to find a church will only save you heartache later on. My wife and I attended at least 10 different churches before finding 1 that we wanted to visit more than once. Pray that God bless you with a warm, supportive, Bible based church that preaches the gospel and not a self help program.

I'm so happy that God has brought you to salvation. My God bless you, your little girl, and your husband as you start on this journey with the Lord. We will keep you in our prayers.

God bless.

Wendi, first of all I want to thank both you and your husband for the sacrifices that you make in the defense of our country!

Let me ask you something if I may. :)

What is your church background, and what do you understand about Christianity?

Well, I went to a church very regularly until I was about the age of 14. It was called The Church of Brethren. It was very uncomfortable because most of the time was spent on bad mouthing other religions and life choices. I never agreed to that because I always felt that spirituality should be based on love and tolerance. If others don't believe the way you do I believe that you should love them just the same because I know in my heart that's what Jesus would do. My family and I were always sort of ridiculed for those beliefs and it became very uncomfortable so we stopped being a part of it. I sort of stopped believing for a while because I just couldn't understand how God could have taught such hatred and intolerance if He is supposed to be good, but now I know it was not His teaching, it was their misunderstanding of His teachings. We would then read a certain passage from the Bible, however never really discussing it very well because I still can't understand much of the Bible. All I know for the most part is the very famous stories and such. I know the Christ died for our sins and then was ressurrected. I know of the flood and Moses and those things.

Editing this to add thanks to you all for your prayers and kind words towards my husband :) I am so proud of what he does even though it can be very hard, but it's always nice to hear kind words from others :)

Lord Jesus, I believe you died for me and that God Almighty raised you from the dead. Please forgive all my sins. I choose to turn away from them now and I ask you to come into my heart and life as my Lord and Saviour.

Hi Wendi, may I ask, reading what I have written above - can you repeat those words yourself today and mean them with all your heart and mind?

What I am trying to discover, is have you accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour or not?

If you have we need to talk of the best way to proceed. Where to start reading in the bible, to learn God's Will/ Wisdom. How to pray. How to live daily. How to get into a church and how to look at the service/ people there correctly. How to love all believers (sounds like you're already there on this one :))

However if you believe in God, but not the gospel God/ Jesus specifically, we need to encourage you to learn more about Jesus Christ and accept him as your personal Saviour.

I say in love, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the second position seems to come through your posts so far. Welcome to the forums and I hope we become good friends. SofTy.

I can, and I do. I do need to know where to go from here because I haven't a clue.

Well, a couple of things. :)

First, start reading the bible for yourself. I'd recommend starting with the Gospel of John, as this really lays out who Jesus is and what He has done for us.

If you don't have a bible, this is a link to an on-line bible that You can use:

http://www.biblegateway.com/

Next thing to do is to find a church where Christ is preached and the bible is held as the final authority in matters of faith, worship, and practice.

Get involved in the local church, because that is where you can serve, grow, mentor and be mentored.

And of course...we invite your fellowship here on this board! :pp

Hi Wendi, and welcome to the board!

If you have already accepted Jesus as your personal Saviour the next step is to get to know him better! As others have said the best ways to do this are through spending time in prayer and reading the Bible.

If you're using a PC I highly recommend downloading yourself a copy of e-sword. You can get it from www.e-sword.net and it comes with a nice round price tag (i.e. £0). You can also download a few extra translations of the Bible for free, and there are a few other bits and pieces you can download at a modest extra cost.

The gospels are a good place to start simply because they cover the life and teachings of Jesus and include his own words, so you get it "straight from the horse's mouth", so to speak. After that the letters to the early churches also have some very good teachings in them. If you've got a study Bible with cross-referencing in it, take some time to look up the cross-referencing, so you can see how things like the Old Testament laws were applied by the Pharisees and how Jesus said they were intended to be applied.

Whereabouts in England are you stationed?
