My question is about John 14:15-21, What does it mean?

The Helper is the Holy Spirit...does that answer your question or are you looking for something more detailed?

When Jesus went to be with The Father, The Holy Spirit took His place here with us to 'help' us while we are in the 'world'.

A few quick points.

v15 - If you love me, you will do as I command. - If we take all scripture as not just speaking to those at that time but also to us, this is very interesting.

We won't just be baptised, be all happy etc, daily we will seek God's Will in the whole bible and do as he commands. It's not a possibility or a may be, rather if we love Jesus Christ it follows automatically.


v17 - ...............The people of this world cannot accept the Spirit, because they don't see or know him. - it's not that the Spirit isn't right in front of them all the time. Rather they are blind until they accept the gospel message and recieve the free gift from God. Then for the first time light is shone on the whole of God's Wisdom in scripture/ the bible. They move from a physical existance to a Spiritual/ Kingdom experience.


v19 - In a little while the people of this world will not be able to see me, but you will see me. Jesus appeared to many of his followers, hundreds, but not to non believers. Why?

And because I live, you will live. - the second part of the verse. As Paul tells us, if Jesus wasn't raised to life by the Father, then our faith is pointless, because we won't rise to life either! We are already in God's Kingdom. We already have life in the name of Jesus, the only name.


v21 - links well with v15 and many verses in the gospels. If you love me, you will do what I have said ................ I will also love you AND SHOW YOU WHAT I AM LIKE.

There is no gap. To accept Jesus, is to follow, walk with, do as he commands, do as he has said. The Spirit is God's gift to help us follow his path - a guide. SofTy. :pp
