1 Corinthians 13:8-13 (New King James Version)
8] Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9] For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12] For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. 13] And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
True and Timeless
Real, true love—love that is generated from and modeled after God’s LOVE—matures and grows, outlasting and outperforming other transient gifts. The gifts that the early Church enjoyed (tongues and healing) affirmed the message that Jesus is the Messiah, crucified, risen and coming again—and then their work was done. God’s LOVE is forever, transcending our immaturity and lack of knowledge. His LOVE will guide us unerringly, even though we do not yet see the full picture of how He operates in our lives and in the lives of others. God’s LOVE, working in us and through us, charts the course of the Christian’s journey and guides us through the rough places of troubled relationships. LOVE—God’s LOVE—is the sure foundation for a life of service fulfillment.
