This is kind of off topic to my original question. Is it okay to smoke cigars once you're 18? Also, thanks to the mods for moving the original post to a new thread. We learn from our mistakes, even the tiny ones.

Assuming it is legal to smoke at age 18 where you live I'd say that was a decision for you to make.

I personally don't smoke, although as long as you aren't going to get yourself addicted to tobacco (in which case it could potentially become a form of idolatry if you seek it before you seek God) I wouldn't say it is specifically sinful.

You may have your own reasons for not smoking, but I'd rate it alongside eating meat, drinking alcohol, and assorted other things that some people choose to do and other people choose not to do.

Although your only supposed to puff on cigars and not inhale, you end up inhaling most of it anyway, I used to smoke cigars and for that reason I stopped. The biggest issue is that when other people are around you are harming them and if you meet someone trying to stop smoking than you cause them to stumble, so even Paul says that he would stop eating meat if it caused someone to stumble

If it's something you have never done, I personally would advise against it. It becomes a bad habit, the girls (and most of us guys) normally don't like the smell of it, and you could spend the extra money (surely it must be extra if you are considering spending it on this) on something that you could really enjoy or save it up for something special :)

Scripturally, I agree with Tango ;)

You seem like a thoughtful and intelligent young man. You also seem to be in a hurry to experience things that the world has labeled "adult" privilege. They even come with ages attached. Part of this is rebellion, part of this is cross over from being a young man to being a man. This age is both wonderful and terrible. I have no words that will keep you from trying to speed ahead, but I do remember some good people telling me to slow down and enjoy the ride when I was your age. I will only say to stay away from the things that you see other people addicted to, there is a reason that so many fall into the trap. Not everyone gets out of the trap once they fall in. It is easier to stop smoking and drinking before you ever start. Once started it gets harder and harder to quit with each participation. For most people, once they want to stop, it is too late. It becomes a real battle.

God bless you and yours.

Thanks Gregg, and your advice about staying away from all of the bad things that people do is great. All of the bad that they do makes me conscious of what they do and aware of it and this seems to fuel me even more to distance myself from them and stay on a different level than that. I still would like to lead them into a better life and not make these poor decisions. Or at least seek Christ and repent of their sin.

Well put Duma. It's encouraging to see this kind of wisdom in young people.
