Hi all-- new user, first post. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post in; but I had to pick one.

How does one receive redemption / salvation? Do they really exist? How do you know? Can anyone be forgiven and receive salvation? I'm afraid I have lost all faith and am VERY skeptical about everything I've ever been told regarding Christianity. I don't want it to be like this as I am very depressed and life seems to me to have no meaning. I was raised in a very devout family and have tried countless times to invite Christ into my life-- all with ZERO results. Maybe someone on here could help me understand...

Hello bmc,

Perhaps a different perspective is in order. You say you have asked Jesus into your life, and there is nothing wrong with that, but perhaps the true biblical perspective is along a somewhat different line. Didn't Jesus say that we must partake of His Life? In other words, He invites us to partake of His life. Two of the most common words He used when He called disciples was "Follow Me." Have you tried to read the gospels and put yourself in the audience? He is asking us to follow Him. Perhaps you should spend more time listening to His voice (read His words more) and a little less time to everyone else's.

I would ask what are you looking to get out of a life in Christ? What are you looking for in life and why do you feel skeptical? How do you feel about God's love for you and what do you think God expects from you?

BMC,

I would suggest that you begin by reading the Scriptures. Start with Genesis and with one of the gospels. I don't think anything we could say would build your faith any more.

Jeremiah 29:13 says,
'You will seek Me and find {Me} when you search for Me with all your heart."

The Lord God reveals Himself through the Scriptures. If in your study, you have any questions, I am sure there will be many here who will help you with them.

God bless you,
BHS

How does one receive redemption / salvation?

"That whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoseover believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
John 3:15-16

Do they really exist? How do you know? Can anyone be forgiven and receive salvation?

Yes. Because God said so in His Word and God does not lie. God is trustworthy. Yes.

I'm afraid I have lost all faith and am VERY skeptical about everything I've ever been told regarding Christianity.

There is knowing with the intellect, the mind, and there is a knowing in the heart. You must believe and trust God (His Word) with your heart.

I don't want it to be like this as I am very depressed and life seems to me to have no meaning. I was raised in a very devout family and have tried countless times to invite Christ into my life-- all with ZERO results. Maybe someone on here could help me understand...

If you think you have "zero" results, it seems to me that you're expecting God to act or do in a certain, preconceived way. Which he does not.

Have you ever come to the place where you realized or know, without a doubt that you're a sinner and need a Savior to save you from those sins? Did you stand before God and confess those sins, repent of those sins and ask God for forgiveness and to come into your heart to live as Lord and Savior of your heart and life?

Blessings

Tit 2:14
He gave himself for us to set us free from every kind of lawlessness and to purify for himself a people who are truly his, who are eager to do good.

1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been fathered by God, and everyone who loves the father loves the child fathered by him. 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God: whenever we love God and obey his commandments. 5:3 For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments. And his commandments do not weigh us down, 5:4 because everyone who has been fathered by God conquers the world.

Its one thing to believe, its another altogether to trust Him with your life.

Its about loosing your life so you might find life.

Don't feel bad that your faith is wavering and know that everyone on here who is giving you advice has been in the same situation. Times like this can make your faith stronger in faith and in your relationship with God.

One of the hardest things to do sometimes is to be patient with God. God does not jump when we say jump. Be persistent in prayer and pray well reading the scriptures, so that God will help you hear what you need to hear. I'm glad that you decided to reach out here and try to find support, and I hope you find it.

Hi bmc, and welcome to the boards. :)

Let me ask you something here (before I answer your question):

What (in your opinion) do you understand it takes for one to be a Christian and inherit eternal life? What must you do?

If you'll answer those for me, it will give me a better idea of "where you're at"...thanks!
