How many rep points from others does it take to get one of those little blue rectangular icons above the posts on strings? If one has any infractions, does that detract from the points earned?

I'm not sure how much reps are in each pip, but at some point the scale just stops.

Negative reps, take away rep points, but doesn't have a huge impact. The only time you see people with truly negative reputation (red pips) is for people who are consistently inflammatory/controversial and stick around for a long time. Doesn't happen often.

You've got the blue pip now, I think the next one is when you get to 50 reputation, then 150 and so on.

I forget when you start getting the bright pips but from there on you get them less often. Once you've got the full complement of them (5 small and 6 bright) all that happens is the text changes. You can see the text if you hover your mouse over the pips.

Infractions don't reduce the amount of rep you have, they are separate points. Most times you get an official message from a moderator it doesn't have any points associated with it at all.
