I use firefox browsers and have it set to save my sign in information so I don't have to sign into my homepage every time it loads. I have it arranged like I want..news stories, show my email, shows my local weather and so forth. Well for all these years I have had no problems with my customized page coming up and only had to sign in on my email every once in awhile. Well since AVG (free version) did its latest major update to a newer version it treats the saved information for my homepage like a tracking cookie and blocks it thinking its a threat.
So I have to keep signing in just to get to my homepage which is really annoying because in the mornings all I want to do it bring up firefox which is suppose to go straight to my customized homepage and check the days temperatures and weather so both my son and I know how to dress for the day. I don't want to even sit down at the computer. Just hit firefox, it loads straight to my homepage. The way it is now, with my username, its hard to type one handed or leaning over the chair to type two handed...so then I have to pull the chair out, sit down and type the dumb thing in again...grrrrrrrrrr. It only does this when the computer has been completely shut down over night and then turned on in the morning.
I worked with AVG here a while back and thought I had it set to accept what was needed for my homepage but it didn't work. So how do I find the option for this on AVG and what do I put in? I am seriously getting tired of this.
God bless

On the AVG website, there is a "help" tab at the top right of the page. Click on that; if you scroll down that page a bit, you'll find "free forum" on the left side in which you might find the answer you are looking for.
If not, perhaps doing a search for your particular problem will bring you some answers.

I use AVG and they are very good at responding to you when contact them. I buy my protection yearly, I don't know if that makes a difference.

Try Windows Live OneCare, it's a whole lot better and safer. AVG has gotten to the point that it let's a lot of things come right in.

I will try that...I avoided it because usually you have to wade through so much information that takes hours then never find what you want... But I will give it a shot. :)

Oh I am sure that makes a big difference...but I might try anyway..lol.

I might check that out too if I can't get this worked out...

I use the AVG paid version, but you should still be able to go to Tools>Advanced settings>PUP exceptions. You would actually need to copy/paste or type the full path of your favorite cookies (bibleforums.org i.e.) on the exceptions list. Not the easiest thing in the world.
But AVG normally will not scan friendly cookies...only those with pre-determined definitons, such as tracking cookies. So it puzzles me that your friendly cookies are being cleared.
If you run the AVG scan, then find your friendly cookies in the vault and copy the complete info including file and path, then type the info into exceptions, it will no longer wipe your sign-in info from yourl favorite sites.
The free version might be slightly different from my version and might require a little playing around, but that is the basic way to do it.
I'm getting so I'll only scan about once a month, clear cookies and re-sign into everything. :(
I assume your version is 8.5, but do not know if the free version allows you to shut off the "scan for cookies" functon, which I would not recommed anyhow, especially if you are running Vista.

Personally, I use avast .
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
The free version is much better then AVG ( or any other IMHO and yes that includes nortan and M$ $$$$ware).
The interface is easier , low amount of stuff that it lets through, reliable updates, and more.
And that is just the free version.

I have windows XP actually. And you know what? I had to shut down the computer last night to it to finish its updating (usually it doesn't require a shut down..or restart) but did this time. Plus windows also did an update too. Anyway yesterday and this morning when I started up the computer and it opened my homepage, I didn't have to log in! :pp:pp:pp So maybe its got the message? I sure hope so!

One more thing on the subject. If you stay with AVG, you can opt to not scan cookies. When you select scan (manual), you should get a check list.
Since you have XP you can delete unwanted (tracking) cookies yourself. Start>Run>Cookies.

Ok that is what I did because I don't know how to find the information to tell it not to take off my cookies for my homepage. It does that on youtube also but that isn't as bothersome as having to log into my homepage all the time. I click on save for two weeks but it does no good when this keeps removing it saying its a threat... Anyway I hope this works. Thanks!

It looks to me like you are experiencing a firewall issue. Look at your settings and there should be a place where you can click to allow certain pages through an exception. I also use AVG paid version so I am unable to play with it myself to get you more specific help, but the concept is the same in both cases.

You know I used to have a firewall, but here a while back, thinking I was having a problem with it..I went looking for it...I can't find it anywhere! It used to show in the tool bar...not there. I have searched all over my computer and its no where to be found...I have no idea what happened to it...:hmm:

I don't think its that anyway because I see the Resident Shield come up when I go to load my homepage, saying it removed a tracking cookie from firefox..the Resident shield is on the AVG program. So I know its that taking out my cookie..

The resident shield is the firewall. Here is what AVG says to do to fix your problem.
How to exclude some directory from AVG Resident Shield scanning (javascript:%20faqshow(1293,10);)
To exclude a directory from Resident Shield scanning, please proceed as follows:
open AVG 8.5 Free Edition -> Tools -> Advanced settings
in the left pane select Resident Shield -> Exceptions
tick the "Use excludes for Resident Shield" option
use the "Add Path" button to choose the directory to be excluded
confirm the changes using the OK button

Somehow I had a feeling you were going to tell me the Resident shield was the fire wall... duh on my part.
Anyway I have done all those steps...except..I don't know what to put in for the path to be excluded...I have no idea. I tried before thinking I had it, but it didn't work. I have no idea how to even find what cookie to be excluded.

If you have your home page open and are signed into it, then you should be able to copy and paste the http thing from the top box into the exclusions option on AVG.
