Somebody gave us movie tickets yesterday, so we let our 12 year old son choose the movie. He wanted to see Transformers, so we took him. I never thought about the rating of the movie. I have never seen any Transformer movies, so I just thought it was a movie suitable for kids. I don't know what my husband thought. He is not as concerned with movie ratings as I am. He accepts a lot that I don't, was raised that way.

Well, first of all, you practically have to have ADHD to follow the movie. Much of it was a blurr of action. I'm not saying I didn't get into the movie, it was hard not to. The thing is, the things that the characters said were awful. There was some language, but mostly the talk was just trashy. There were put downs that were sexual in nature. A non-human character pursued the main character and we got to see her try to force herself on him. We even got to briefly see a 50ish year old man in a thong.

What were they thinking? This could have been a movie perfect for families, packed with adventure! What did they need all that stuff in there for? I'm sure it was to keep the older teens and adult audience interested. I'm not happy that we so naively took our son to see this movie. We should know better. He has been wanting to see it for so long and we thought we were doing a good thing taking him to see this movie.

We check Dove family movie reviews (http://www.dove.org/default.asp) before we go. Last two movies we saw at the theater with the kids were Bolt and Up. Jen and I on Date night saw Monsters vs. Aliens.
It's a shame producers feel the need to put in that junk, but they are trying to make money and the world loves trashy movies.

Thanks for the link. That should certainly be the first stop for a movie for us from now on!

I haven't yet seen the second movie, but the first live action one certainly didn't have kid-friendly elements either.
I think you are not alone in your surprise, from a bunch of reviews that I have read on the first one, most parents thought that one would be kid-friendly when they took their kids to it.

They found out the hard way that it wasn't. Masturbation jokes, long panning shots over Megan Fox's semi-clothed body (she had a shirt baring her midriff and a hiphugger mini skirt) and Sam looking really aroused and staring at her. And then at the end of the movie a makeout scene on top of Bumblebee.

So these are signs that this version of Transformers, is not for kids, (or even for many others looking for a good TF movie at this point ;))

the Pg 13 rating shouldve tipped you off. Its Transformers, not Barney But the producers did put in some non kid friendly material, but u gotta remember they're trying to make money. So they'll pander to different group- the action and mature plot lines would appeal to older persons. I for one HATE kid movies- Those ones clearly targeted towards kids- with the juvenile plotting, To me animated features such as the ones Disney did were alot more intersting since they put in some dark content to add depth- deaths etc.

Yeah, the rating should have tipped me off. I'm not even sure I knew the rating, because I usually say no to PG-13. I think I just took for granted it would be PG or even G. I don't think I ever considered the rating. It didn't help that we didn't go specifically to see that movie. There was another movie playing that we hoped to see and then my son insisted on that one, so we let him have his way. I guess we just got lost in the moment of trying to please him. My daughter and I even debated of going to that other movie, but my husband didn't want to split up... live and learn, right?
