View Full Version : Discussion Your music....

YHWH is working in me at this stage and yesterday I had a feeling that I had to confess all the Gospel music I had on my computers that was illegal.
So I did. This morning I got back to work started up my laptop and started to listen to iTunes and the music I had on it. Then the Father asked me... You said you are sorry for taking food out of the mouths of artists. But still you listen to their music?
So then I had to take action. I removed all my music that I did not purchase.
ALL OF IT!
So anyone else bold enough to say sorry! And take action and remove all the illegal music from their computers.
Come on. Lets support artists and do the right thing. Remember to repent and turn away!

Good thing I've paid for all of my music ;)
You know who's keeping food out of the mouth's of artists more than people who download music? Recording Labels. Not that I'm trying to legitimize (illegal) music downloading.

I did the same thing a few weeks ago when God convicted me. I got rid of all the illegally downloaded music that my friends has given me and I bought a few CD's so that I could keep my favourite songs. For some reason, the music I listen to now sounds so much sweeter.

But how far does it go? I mean should we not be able to listen to music on youtube because we didnt pay? I mean I can legally download videos and music via Realplayer...anyone who has realplayer can download any video and music from the web legally. So whats the difference? How can you justify some things but not others?

Illegal music downloads according to Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_infringement
Copyright infringement (or copyright violation) is the unauthorized use of material that is covered by copyright law, in a manner that violates one of the copyright owner's exclusive rights, such as the right to reproduce or perform the copyrighted work, or to make derivative works.
How about going to YHWH and asking Him what he thinks of your music sharing and downloading.
Have a stunning God filled day!

There's also the 'classic' my country allows music sharing, yours doesn't.

LOL true, but even if my country did I would still follow the advice of the Holy Spirit and do what was right

I download music but I buy the CDs of artists I really like, so the songs I dont listen to much that I download I wouldnt buy anyways...so is it okay? Or am I justifying my sin?...:hmm:

I think you already know the answer to that one

Agree with the previous post.
We try to turn a sin into a "small" sin.
Wake up, smell the flowers! And now I am preaching to myself as well. All those movies we share, series and programs? It is against the law in the word of GOD there stands to obey all who is in power (even the copyright guys)
Maybe it is time for us all to find all the illegal things and clean it out?

Does that mean I cant burn CD's either!?!?..:o
Then why do they put CD burners in computers?...:hmm:

Burning CD's is not illegal in the UK, I'm not sure about the US. The only rule I'm guessing applies to burning CD's is not to sell them or give them out to the public.

I love this thread. I used to illegally download music but eventually I got rid of it too & now I buy my music instead.
For some reason, the music I listen to now sounds so much sweeter. I agree too. it does seem more different to me when I know I've bought it.

So whats the difference between burning someones CD and taking the music, or downloading it from someone and taking the music?...:hmm:

Because sharing files via the internet is down en masse. In other words, on such a large scale that it loses the producers of the CD's money. Lending a CD to a friend is not illegal because it requires at least one of you to buy the CD in the first place, so that's one person buying music for 2-3 people. That's very different to the internet where one person is buying the music for 10000 people.

Same concept works in downloading, for the original person to have the music they would have had to buy the CD or download it on itunes. I think this falls under the "if your heart tells you its wrong and you do it anyways its a sin" category. Like you might think having a beer or two is okay, but I might not type of thing.

For backups of Documents maybe? :)
I guess it all comes down to what your believes are at the moment. I know if I have a feeling of guilt over stealing music, that I must right the wrong and get rid of the content on my computer. Same with my ex porn collection. If YHWH tells you it is wrong are you still going to try and find a way to make it right?
Remember that you are going to have to explain in heaven on your actions. If the Lord told me it is wrong am I still going to do it?
So the other question is how do you understand Rev 3? Being neither warm and neither cold? Can we apply this to it. Are you going to be in the middle where YHWH will reject you or are you going to do the right thing?
Look at what your heart convicts you of today. We must walk the right path people! The time is near!

Well like I said earlier, I think it is a conviction of the heart. But you guys are making me feel bad and are going to make me delete my music . I cant afford to buy it, I'm in college. Geeze, I dont drink, smoke, or party and the only thing I have is my tunes and now your going to take that away too...
P.S. Microsoft comes with WMP which is meant for burning songs onto a CD. So it wasnt meant just to burn documents.

Try out a program called Spotify. It's a free program that allows you to listen to music on the internet (but not download it!) and it is completely legal.
At Jeffinator: I know you're only joking but even so drinking, smoking, partying (the sinful kind) and illegal music might sound fun but they are the pits compared to what God offers instead.

Agree. The "dark side" will always try to take the children away. I know how it feels to have little money. But check the bargain bin. You can get pretty good music to very good music. Listen to a Gospel Music station. Here in SA we have 2 in my area. One site PLR.org was also a great help when I could stream music. There is a lot of legal ways to listen to music without breaking the bank. Good luck on your choices :)

Anyone remember that time the music industry collapsed because of pirating? I would say the music industry is losing more money because of it's stupid decisions than by pirating. Musicians are losing money not primarily because of pirating, but recording industry contracts.

I agree, a lot of recording studios are taking in new "artists" left and right. Especially in the hip-hop category. So naturally a lot of these recording studios are ripping off these eager to get famous artists.

Speaking as a musician in a band that is planning to release an album next year, I don't want to be losing any money to produce it (I'm not interested in profit) and I'd be quite glad knowing that no one is illegally downloading our music.
We're not going to be on a recording industry contract so we won't be losing money there, but we will if we produce CD's and only a handful of people buy them because the others are getting hold of the music illegally.
Not all bands are subject to the whims of the music industry

Many bands actually embrace filesharing (or at least willingly accept it as inevitable).
I have a fair amount of downloaded music... I support the bands I listen to, as I go to all their concerts and buy their merchandise (sometimes even the CD's I have downloaded).
I'm in a largely popular band right now. We've given away over a hundred CD's... we even tell people to share it with their friends. Trust me, it isn't because we are desperate for support. Filesharing provides bands with more supporters who normally wouldn't opt to spend money for music. The real income for bands really should come from a large fan base that supports them.
And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying filesharing is a good thing. Just trying to bring in another aspect...
Is it wrong to download music from bands or artists that are long dead? The money would only go to support greedy record companies, not artists with the actual talent that attracts listeners.

Still it feels wrong to download music so I will stay away from it.
I think copyright lasts 50 years on "passed away" artists.

I understand that. The music industry as a whole right now has been in a major shift right now as it is so everyone's still kinda trying to figure out how to land on their feet. While back in the day tours only happened to support the release of an album to make album sales, now it's completely flip flopped and the release of an album supports a tour since that's where the real money is made today.
Of course there are certain instances where it's good to give away freebies especially in promo situations. But would I want to have all my music up for grabs for free at all times all the time? No, I'd still like to see something in return, even though I know it would be a small slice of the pie of my income.
Besides, bottom line Thou shalt not steal is thou shalt not steal. I don't think God made a special music exception in the bible  If we're not allowed to rob ten million dollars from a bank than we're not allowed to download one song for free. Sin is sin. It's not about whether it's considered "big" or "small." It's all the same in God's eyes.
And just for the record. Not all record labels are greedy. At least mine isn't! It's a nonprofit :)
