I was helping a friend set up a new computer this afternoon...he has a paid version of the AVG on his old computer ...how does he get it on the new computer without paying for it again? And yes by the time I got there he had already disconnected the old and was setting up the new computer. He also knows very little about computers and probably wouldn't have a clue where the saved paid for program was to email it to himself to download again. I looked all over AVG's site and didn't see a way to contact them about this. I went ahead and downloaded the free version on his computer so he would have some kind of protection until we get this figured out.

Any ideas?

Thanks

When they gave our school 500 licenses they just told me to download the free and put the paid serial number in where you enter the number.

Ok thanks..hopefully he saved the serial number somewhere..but I am afraid he didn't...just seems like their would be some way to contact them. But then he would have to prove he bought it..:hmm:

If he can run the old computer he should be able to get the license number from AVG itself. In the main application window there should be an icon marked "License" - double-click it and you can get the serial number.

I don't think that is going to work...he has already packed away the old computer and it would be quite a chore to get it up and set it all up again. Isn't there a way he can contact AVG and give him his email or whatever they need to ID him?

If he downloads the free version, he should find a contact us in the help menu. If he at least remembers his registration info, along with his name and email (the email address he used to register the product), he can ask them by email to help him locate his serial #, which they will likely email.

He will then upgrade from free to paid (its all on the account page), where he will submit his serial #.

Ok we can try that. He didn't keep any of the information..or print it out. And didn't think about getting that before he took down his old computer and put up the new one. He is not very knowledgeable about computers..never did any of the windows updates at all...don't think he did any of the AVG update either. Then wondered why his computer wasn't running very well..;) But see no one ever told him this stuff so he just didn't know. Thanks for the help.

God bless
