I'm doing research on the ancient Greek religion, and I'm thinking: People actually BELIEVED this stuff?

Apparently, the gods and goddesses of the ancient Greek religion were kind of like giant, super-powerful humans.

Yeah, kinda like what the book of Enoch describes, and Jude alludes to.
They say that all myth has a basis of truth. Truth as the seed, then embellished with the retelling.

Isn't that what Clash of the Titans and that Percy Jackson movie are based on? Greek mythology?

My understanding is that 'Common folk' probably did, philosophers didn't (it is a simple matter to undermine Greek religion with basic philosophy), nor did rulers. Well, at least that is the 'rule', there were exceptions.

I've read that the ancient Greek religion and the ORIGINAL ancient Roman religion were completely different.

Reportedly, the ancient Roman religion absorbed elements of the ancient Greek religion and became what is often thought of as the ancient Roman religion.

Names of gods, goddesses, etc. of the ancient Greek religion were renamed.

That tended to be a rule of thumb.

From what I understand the "early church" of catholicism explains how the god pan was baptized and is now a catholic, so I agree with you, it's incredible how people believe that nonsense.

According to what I've read, the Greek Pan became the Roman Faunus.

I'm not quite sure what that's got to do with Roman Catholicism, even though I've heard numerous claims that Roman Catholicism has SOME kind of paganism/heathenism in it.

But anyway... a modern day person who actually believes in the ancient Greek religion... I just kind of have to feel sorry for.
