I believe that it's a historical fact that it has rained in the past, and I believe it will rain again, I just don't know when.
I believe that it's a historical fact that the Son of God came into the world, and I believe He will come again, I just don't know when.
Why I believe it's a historical fact:
1. Non-Christian Roman historian Tacitus mentioned the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth during the reign of Tiberius Caesar in his "annals", which covers the history of the Roman Emperors from the death of Augustus in A.D 14 to the death of Domitian in A.D 96.
2. Non-Christian historian Josephus wrote about Jesus in his "antiquity of the Jews" or "wars of the Jews" somewhere around 100 A.D. He also wrote about the stoning of "James the Just", who he states was stoned to death for teaching that Jesus was the promised Messiah - a historical fact that is not written about in any Christian writings.
3. The writings of Paul, James, peter and John give me no reason to doubt their integrity, and the gospels give me no reason to doubt the integrity of their authors.
4. The New Testament is a historically accurate book with regards to political figures (such as the Caesars, Herod the Great and Pontius Pilate), as well as regards coins, the political climate and facts about the Roman rule in Judea and Samaria, as well as regards places and names of towns and cities.
More importantly, I believe because "He who believes on the Son of God has the witness in himself." (1Jn 5:10a).
Just as it's a fact that it rained before and it will rain again (we just can't tell when), it's a historic fact that the Son of God came into the world, died for my sins, rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven and is coming again (I just can't say when).
So that's why I believe.
