No more "pants on the ground" in Florida (http://www.northescambia.com/?p=53660) schools.

...The bill penalizes students caught offending the dress code with a call to their parent, with the most stringent punishment being removal from extracurricular activities and in-school suspension.

“It’s been a long road,” Siplin said Wednesday, as it appeared likely his bill would finally pass the Legislature. Siplin, D-Orlando, said he’s passionate about the issue because he feels too many young people are being bypassed for jobs because they dress inappropriately.....

LOL. My kids have been telling me about this for a while. Talk about a new "Just say no to crack" campaign.

Bout time, honestly I can't comprehend how some parents condone pants dragging

It should be illegal at shopping malls too! I've felt like walking up to them and pulling their stupid pants up myself!

I guess Bret Favre will have to find a new favorite song....hopefully.

I have not been a huge fan of the song for what it implies.....glad to see some sanity edging into the world...

Well now I've wanted to do the opposite and pull their pants down.

I have felt the same way. :agree:

It is sad that this would have to be addressed by a bill. The government can make a law and make the children pull up their pants, but sadly can not give them the sense of dignity that would make them not want to wear their pants like this.

I wish there were a cure for the evils of our society that could come in the form of a rule.... :hmm:

> Moreso, I am thankful that the Cure has already come... I wish that these children would know Him.

Ok I know it gets annoying, and sometimes gross :) but is it really our place to judge what people wear.

I think it would depend on the motive.

If I see a brother with his pants down, he is sending a message to others that he lacks self respect. If I care about him, I would not want him to
send this message or more imporantly I would not want him to see himself this way.

If I think I can correct him simply because that is not my preference... and take it upon myself with a wrong motive the effect will be temporary (at best) and would even drive him from the message I want to share (Christ) at worst.

If my motive is love then I am likely to be right... if my motive is self... then not so much.

Make sense?

Well, my motive might be self. I am offended at looking around and seeing half of someones rear end staring me in the face. I'm thinking to myself, "If I was your mama, you wouldn't be wearing pants so big around they hang down around your knees. Reminds me of a toddler whose diaper has fallen down!

Maybe these are just really B I G BABIES???

Hunter, its not that I am judging. I am actually offended that anyone has the audacity to walk around in front of ladies that way. Amos is right. They have no self-respect and none for others either. There is such a thing as decency and some just don't want to be decent any more.

Well, you know, I was at the sporting goods store a while back and the guy at the gun counter had his pants hanging low giving everyone the vertical smile. Now I'm like the next person and always appreciate a genuine smile from someone, but I want them looking at me when they do so. :)

So, it wasn't the clothes the guy was wearing that I was judging.

Being in high school, I kinda understand why they do it, it's basically where you come from and your heritage, it's not that they don't have any respect but just their style, I don't know why they made their style it just is. Although I don't understand how it is be considered disrespect, it would help if you could explain that more.

Being in high school I kinda understand why they do it, its mainly where they come from and their heritage, I don't know why they made it their style it just is. It's not that they don't have any respect, in fact I don't really understand how it's considered disrespect, if you could explain that more I be most appreciative. But it's all about what they feel they look best in, I mean dont you wanna look your best, so do they, it's just their best is not your style.

Well, to me...showing part of what we call the 'butt' is not fashionable. What in the world looks 'best' about that?

And if its not that part showing, its the dirty underwear. Why would anything like that be 'fashionable'?

But I'll bite...what if your mama or your daddy started wearing THEIR pants that way? Would that make it more of a 'fashion' statement? Would you want your dad or your mom going around like that?

I don't see it as a fashion statement. I see it as 'Ain't nobody gonna tell ME what to wear or what I have to cover up.' SO there! And they moon us........

I'll try to explain my understanding, Hunter.

First, the "style" comes from prisons. No belts, no shoe laces, etc. It's a way of announcing that you're tough enough to make it in prison. That's not exactly something most of us would want to think about, let alone brag about.

Second - it IS about respect. Respect for not just others but oneself as well.

Do you WANT to look at someone's keister? Do you want someone looking at YOUR keister? Please, don't force me into looking at that thing. Respect me enough to not show me your keister cause I gotta say, it isn't all that pretty no matter what you may think :-)

Most schools do not allow that. It is against the dress code in my husband's school.
I don't need to see someone's bottom, thanks.

I was watching prison show once (not a fictional movie but one where they go in and talk to the prisoners) and this one inmate said the low pants thing did start in prison but it meant you were 'available'... I hope everyone knows what I mean so I don't have to explain that! He said these young men have no idea what they are advertising...and an ex-con that is just out of prison and sees that is going to think it means something else altogether...they might get a big shock! :o

Anyway it has nothing to do with culture or heritage anyway..its 'new' for one thing..no ancestors ever dressed like this...its just a fad that has been around probably less then ten years actually. Around here they show their underwear...not their bare rear end. I think you can get arrested for Indecent exposure and around here they probably would be!

I don't like it either...

Also they have no idea how much they are made fun of behind their backs..people pointing and laughing and snicker...I think if they had a clue they would stop it. We don't have very many around here that dress like that. One time I was walking behind a lady and a young man with his pants so low he could barely walk. At one point they fell down...:o But like I said here they wear very long shirts too...so if you see something its their underwear. Thank the Good Lord for small favors.

God bless

Oh my goodness, had no idea that's how it got started, I'm gonna tell this to people at my school :), I'm sure they will be as shocked as I am.

The style originated with the Bloods. Baggy clothes were started by them to facilitate the hiding of contriband.

Ive actually found a lot of guys have been better at keeping their pants up. From 2002-2006 there were guys with their pants hanging off their butts everywhere. Then, suddenly, I stopped seeing it as much. I thought the fashion had passed, LOL.

Before you read this, know that I am not being mean or nasty, just trying to give the best explanation why it's not judging, but it is offensive.

My daughter and her friends are all in high school and think it's dumb looking and laugh at the boys who dress like that. As for the judging, it's not a matter of judging, sweetheart I simply don't want to see your underwear or your butt crack. It's gross, no judging involved. Telling us it's "judging a persons dress" which is vile and offensive to most of the world, is like looking at a puddle of vomit and expecting those around you not to squirm and turn up their noses. Neither do most people want to watch a couple in a heavy kissing session out in public.
And to walk around with your drawers and butt crack showing to the whole world is indecent exposure. fI I wanted to see it, I would ask you to show it to me alone somewhere. Just like looking at these girls with the low rise pants that show their panties and butt cracks....you know the kind, where they have to shave high in the front to avoid showing too much stuff. Or the shirts that show bras, I don't want to be exposed to someone else's private areas and I certainly don't want to know what a girl or guy where's to be sexy for every Tom, Dick, Harry and Jane that they are trying to sleep with. If your pants are so low that your shaving or showing UNDER wear, then it's too low. And as a Christian, you shouldn't be exposing yourself in that way anyway, you should be dressing modestly so that the attention you get is for your holy lifestyle which glorifies God and not your flesh. Does that make sense?

It's just a fashion fad. So much of a teenagers behavior is around purely being rebellious. The more you try and forbid something the more kids and young adults will try to do it. It's even the first lesson taught in The Bible :) If people just ignored it, it would pass much faster as any fad tends to do.
