The new version 3.3 just came out. The thing is I finally found plugins etc... that work good and the current version is stable with no problems. So I thinking about waiting for about 3 to 6 months before upgrading just so the people who do the plugins have a chance to upgrade to work with the new version. Otherwise upgrading might crash my blog.
Do you guys think that's a good idea? Or maybe I do a backup and upgrade anyway?

So long as the version you have is secure, keep it. One of the big pains with major releases of any software is the plugins are always several months behind ... and then add a few more to make sure the kinks are out.
You may have noticed here on this board we don't use plugins. We used to.... and vBulletin has some really cool ones too. But after more than 10 years of exactly what I described above, it just got too much.

Speaking of secure this brings me to another question. One plugin that can be used is supposed to tighten up security on a wordpress blog. And because this one has a fee (as some do) I wonder if it's really doing anything. Here's a list of what they claim: http://www.websitedefender.com/websitedefender-features/
The reason I ask is because if I am going to slack behind in upgrades to keep things stable, adding something like this might be a good idea? Or is it just another way for someone else to make more money?

That's what I thought. I know you keep you security high on your servers so something like this would probably be good only on old servers that have not been updated.

Wordpress is one of the better ones. I reckon so long as you steer clear of bad plugins and keep your WP core up to date, you should be fine.
