Give and Take
I'd like to share this pearl of wisdom I have found with you
For through the years it became clear that it is indeed true
A wise old friend of years gone by sat down and talked to me
He said that not accepting help is life lived selfishly
That give and take is what is right; a balanced life is best
For the giver and receiver can then both be blessed.

Pride is something which quite often can get in the way

I met a mournful stranger in the night,
And asked to hear the story of his plight.
He looked at me with a woeful stare.
I could see his pain; feel his despair.

"Once I was a man of good fashion."
He said with a voice void of passion.
"I had money to satisfy every need,
But money burns in flames of greed.

Surrounded by the finest things,
Unconcerned with what the future brings,
I catered to the worlds temptation; ...

In the seclusion of December's wood,
The whispering moments of Winter-hood
Find me in great need of serenity,
That imponderable amenity,
And walking within the evergreen frost,
Feeling completely so lonely and lost,
Failures, misfortunes, are all that I see.
Relentless pursuers I cannot flee.
So I shall rest below snow plated trees;
Maybe, just maybe, my feet I can please.

Meanwhile, unfolding before my sad eyes,
A portrait ...

I have wandered on an endless quest,
Seeking truth's true definition.
From searching mountains without rest,
To a desert expedition.
Everywhere, I had been told,
Truth is but a shade of grey.
An argument for the bold,
Or a fragile work of clay.
It is not, I must proclaim,
It lives and breaths as you and I!
Truth warms me like a candle flame,
And paints His glory across the sky,
Where cheering angels all applaud
My discovering ...

The scriptures lay before these eyes,
That see with sudden clarity,
Words that help me realize
The power of pure charity.
It bears, believes, and hopes all things.
Love endures until the end.
It finds no joy in what sin brings,
And seeks for truth to be its friend.
But where is this love I hope to find,
That envies not, nor swells with pride?
The love that's patient. The love that's kind.
