Our Kitty Cats

We prayed for our own kitty cat
And God blessed us with two
Who love it when we hug and pat
And carry them 'round too.

Born on a farm in Paraguay
Then dropped off at a mall;
We noticed them when we walked by -
They looked so scared and small.

Three weeks have passed since we came home
With our two kitty cats
And since then they have blossomed; grown
And look much less like rats.

Sylvie is black; her eyes are green
Sweetpea is black and brown.
They are so sweet and soft and clean;
Our princess and our clown.

They jump and play and run and eat
And follow us around,
But when we want to take a seat
Guess where they're to be found?

And goodness me but can they eat
And sleep and pounce and play!
Watching these two is such a treat
We can do it all day!

Our Father has entrusted them
To our loving care,
To look after each fluffy gem;
Our little kitty pair.

Lean On Me
When I was yet a tiny fir tree
Shallow-rooted, supple, thin;
Another young tree grew beside me
And I thought it rude of him.

I needed space; refused to share -
Why couldn't he just go away?
About his needs I did not care,
But always wanted my own way.

Then one fateful day at dawn
As dew drops sparkled on my leaves,
I saw a doe and her young fawn
Approaching our copse of trees.

A hoof crushed me as they went by;
And I was broken; bent -
I offered up a silent cry
Believing that my life was spent.

"Don't weep, brother; I am here -
Lean on me for I am strong";
'Twas the voice of one so near;
The one I used to treat so wrong.

Many years have come and gone,
And seasons good and ill;
Though we have both grown tall and strong
I lean against him still.

If you should come upon some trees
And notice one is bent,
Look closer and you might just see
It's leaning on its friend.

Fright Night
(A children's poem)

In the deepest, darkest night
After I've turned off the light
Creatures lurk within my room
Planning my demise and doom.

They slither, slink and crawl around
Making not the slightest sound;
Waiting with abated breath
To pounce and scare me half to death.

My heart is pounding in my chest
I'm scared to breathe or move 'round lest
The monsters hiding 'neath my bed
Decide it's time that they were fed.

I am so scared; what should I do?
Night after dark night I go through
The same emotions; fear and fright
As soon as I've turned off my light.

I remember someone said
(or is it something that I read?)
We should never, ever fear
For God's Spirit's always near.

I'm not alone: He's here with me
And scary monsters must all flee;
When in Jesus's Name I pray
They have to leave and stay away.

I say a prayer and sing a song
Whilst unseen angels sing along;
They've come to guard me as I sleep;
To slay all things which crawl and creep.

United and Strong

God's children walking hand in hand
United; strong in Christ we stand
On bended knees; our hearts aflame
We call upon our Maker's Name.

When trials come we will not fall
For Christ will help us to stand tall
Though times are tough and things are rough
We'll cling to Him: He is enough.

When fallen ones launch an attack
Those saved by grace will stand; fight back
By calling 'pon our Savior Lord
To save us; smite the demon horde.

Brothers and sisters – young and old
Members of the Good Shepherd's fold
Know that Jesus is in control;
That He cares for each ransomed soul.

Now let's take hands; let us rejoice
Praising Him with unified voice,
Worshiping God's exalted Son;
Glorifying the Worthy One.

Evil Under the Sun

How much evil's being done
Right now beneath the blazing sun?
How many people, children, babes
Are being treated worse than slaves?

Think upon the practice rife
Which does deny souls' claim to life.
Pain inflicted; blood has run -
Murder, torture, just for fun.

As in years and days gone past
From the first sin till the last
Atrocities too foul to mention
Daily screams for our attention.

Can we simply turn away
When suffering, death and decay
Are hidden but within plain sight
If we can help to set things right?

Of course we cannot change it all
Nor answer ev'ry desperate call;
But a loaf – a coat, a deed
Could help to meet a neighbor's need.

Our prayers can water thirsty land
Where there is naught but bone dry sand;
Bring peace to war-torn, broken zones
And heal abusive, loveless homes.

Though darkness seems to reign supreme
Things aren't always what they seem -
Each prayer; each word; each helping hand
Can bring about change small and grand.

Christians of the world unite:
Fill the darkness with God's light
The time is short – the need is great
The end is near; no time to wait.

The Way to the Father

Think not that we can please our Creator
By striving to earn a place in the Light;
For there's no doubt that sooner or later
We'll fall into sin and be banned from His sight.

There's no other Way to the heart of the Father;
Nothing but Christ's precious Blood will do -
The pure, sinless Blood that our only Savior
Shed as payment for me and for you.

Such selfless love is too deep to fathom
Wider and higher than all that is;
A Life for a life; God's own for ours -
The price our Lord paid to make us His.

Honor and glory and praise to Christ Jesus
For Who He is and for what He has done!
In spirit and truth we will worship the Father
Who showed us His love by sending His Son.

Beneath His Wings
When storms are raging 'round me
And winds are blowing fierce,
When demon hordes attack me
And Satan's arrows pierce -

I run to Christ my Rock
And tell Him of my woes:
Of how the demons mock;
My every move oppose.

Then safe beneath His wings
And shielded from all harm,
Life's storms and evil things
Cannot disturb my calm.

Neon Lights

Neon lights beckoning, inviting
Souls to come over to play.
Promising something exciting,
If one should stray their way.

Look at their bright colors flashing;
Pretty they are to behold.
Twisting and turning in patterns quite dashing,
But now only half the story's been told.

When the sun comes up and lightens the sky
And shines brightly in the day,
They look quite tacky as they flicker and die;
As their neon lives fade away.

The snares that they set for souls during the night
Have trapped the unwary in sin,
But everything is now exposed by the Light
And many regret the big mess they are in.

The pleasures they tasted now empty and gone,
And so too their morals and money,
But others still crave all that jaded old 'fun',
Returning at night when it's no longer sunny.

Oh! Pretty lights, you flash and you flicker
During the nights to make lost souls sicker.
Lead them to drink, to gamble and more -
Is that what you look so beautiful for?

A Prayer for Guidance

Guide me, Lord, each night and day;
Please show me Your will and way
And give me the words to say
When I close my eyes to pray.

Help me, Lord, to clearly see
What You want this child to be.
Father please enable me
To walk closely God, with Thee.

You're the Potter; I'm the clay
Shape me, mold me ev'ry day.
Strengthen me so I won't stray.
Teach me to submit; obey.

Hear now, Lord, my earnest plea -
Spirit tend and water me;
Let me be a fruitful tree
Wholly pleasing Lord, to Thee.
