The Complaining Heart

Hush now, my complaining heart, be silent!
Desist this pounding, pounding in my ears!
Must your ill tempered beat be so violent
To bang its war drums announcing my fears?
Retrieve your molten anger from my face.
It burns with the hatred which I abhore,
And leads down the path to my disgrace;
A path I've traveled many times before.
Beat! Beat in time with God's sweet charity!
Pulsate with the desires of His will,
And then my heart, we'll find a rarity,
That our troubles will become silent, still,
Small voices whispering into our soul,
"Give up, give in, give God complete control."

II

The Antidote

Be silent now, and look, oh bitter heart!
Just look at what your anger has become!
Emotions that are tearing you apart,
Wearing on your thoughts until they are numb.
Distubances of such hostility,
Which will work just like a poisonous pill,
Spreading the toxins of anxiety
That fill your chambers with a frosty chill.
Let forgiveness be a musical note,
And play it upon your strings with delight!
It's gentle phrasing is the antidote
To extricate these toxins from our sight.
Play for us a forgiving symphony,
And love and joy will join in harmony.

III

Forgiving Music

Oh heart, play a sweet strain upon your strings,
And let forgiving music lead the way
To where you will be shown more lovely things
Than what the world can offer you today.
Let us quit weeping over lost pride,
It never really measured our success.
Look for the forgiveness you keep inside,
And find the key that will grant us access
To all the hidden treasures within you.
Dear heart, do not wallow in your despair,
There is a love that helps you continue
To seek a life of joy beyond compare!
So look for the love that will always live,
And discover the gift that it can give.

IV

More Lovely

Hush now, my complaining heart, and behold
There is a love that is not meant for you.
It is a love that can't be bought or sold;
A love undeceiving, and always true.
It is ageless, and full of holy grace.
It is timeless, and will forever live
To breathe its breath beyond this worldly place.
It is the love we all must seek to give.
Love is not something that can be contained
In the nets and trappings of earthly pride,
For how can it grow when it is detained,
Or selfishly locked in chambers inside?
Hush now my heart, unbar your doors today,
Love is more lovely when given away.

V

Like Unto the First

Love is more lovely when given away
To The Father of all we know and see.
The One who breathed life into dusty clay,
And gave us a map to eternity.
Dear heart, give your love away to The Son
Who faithfully followed His Father's will
And gave up His pure life for everyone,
And is seated beside His Father still!
Now my poor heart, you must love yourself too,
Else how can you truly love your neighbor
If it does not linger inside of you?
Forgive yourself during this time of labor,
Let the Heavenly Spirit bring you peace,
Then we shall labor in love without cease!

VI

Blessings Indeed

Hush now, my complaining heart, and be strong!
Then we can labor in love without cease,
For love freely given can never be wrong,
Therefore, the love given back will increase.
So spread your increase amongst those in need,
Even unto the ones who have hurt you.
Love's gifts are truly great blessings indeed
To the cheerful heart so full of virtue!
Oh heart, can we dry the sick children's eyes,
Or give our portion to those with no home?
Can we try to comfort the lost one's cries,
And guide them back to the road they should roam?
Love is more lovely when given away,
So let us now labor in love today!

VII

Good Measure

Oh heart, let us labor in love today
Without seeking anything in return.
For what would it profit us anyway,
If repayment were our only concern?
Live to give and forgive, and we will find
Fear and anger removed from you, sad heart,
Replaced by compassion, and peace of mind.
Then you will discover a feeling start
To uncover a love for our brother,
Heaped up, and overflowing within us.
Distributing mercy for each other
With a love eternally wondrous.
Be brave my heart; let us unite and say,
"Love is most lovely when given away!"
