SHOOT'N FROM THE HIP: I can't believe it's not love!

Rate this Entry
(1Co 13:1 CEV) What if I could speak all languages of humans and of angels? If I did not love others, I would be nothing more than a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.

And yet.... We can still be noisy gongs.... Clanging cymbals thinking all our banging around is doing something good.... And yet we are still nothing.... Why? I found out the hard way why....

Let's start with an analogy.... Those are always fun....

If you take a quart of pure cream and whip it til it looks a lot like.... Well.... Whipped cream.... And was tinged a lovely light yellow.... You would have butter the way God intended it to be.... Light and fresh and creamy.... And very spreadable.... The most wonderfully delicious butter you'll ever want to taste....

And then there is the butter you get from the store.... It is hard and waxy.... You have to melt it before you can spread it on your toast.... And when you eat it.... It has that I'm-about-to-go-rancid taste....

Yuck....

In the King James.... The word translated as charity is agape.... It means a love feast.... And another of it's meanings is benevolence.... To really understand how to walk in love as we ought to.... We must find out what love to walk in....

WHAT DOES THE WORD SAY?:

(Eph 5:1 AMP)
THEREFORE BE imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father].
(Eph 5:2 AMP)And walk in love, [esteeming and delighting in one another] as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us, a slain offering and sacrifice to God [for you, so that it became] a sweet fragrance. [Ezek. 20:41.]

SHOOT'N FROM THE HIP:

We are to love others (yes EVERYONE) as Christ loved us.... But there is a difference between the love we think about.... And the love we are to walk in.... Just like the difference between fresh whipped butter and the kind you buy in the store.... The love we are to walk in has charicteristics human love simply does not have.... And never will.... Our love is not fresh.... It is not soft or spreadable.... And even though we hesitate to admit it.... It has waxed cold and self centered.... It can be turned on and off at will.... And it has TONS of conditions....

If we love others with our own love.... We will find that absolutely nothing we try works.... We get angry.... We get pushy.... We want things to be done right and done right now.... And we refuse to allow things to be any way other than our own.... And will not understand any other point of view (on purpose.... Come on now....).... Thus our love is unspreadable.... Tears up the toast.... Goes against the grain.... More like sandpaper than salt....

But once we realize that it is not human love that we are to walk in.... But a different love entirely.... Everything clicks into place....

WHAT DOES THE WORD SAY?:

(1Co 13:4 AMP)
Love endures long and is patient and kind; love never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily.
(1Co 13:5 AMP)It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God's love in us) does not insist on its own rights or its own way, for it is not self-seeking;it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong].
(1Co 13:6 AMP) It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness, but rejoices when right and truth prevail.
(1Co 13:7 AMP) Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening].
(1Co 13:8 AMP) Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. As for prophecy (the gift of interpreting the divine will and purpose), it will be fulfilled and pass away; as for tongues, they will be destroyed and cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away [it will lose its value and be superseded by truth].

SHOOT'N FROM THE HIP:

God's love in us.... Not our love.... But God's love in us.... Agape.... The kind of love other folks can feast on.... The kind of love we ourselves have wrapped ourselves tightly in.... Like a newborn in a security blanket.... The preceeding verses are charicteristics not of our love (because our love could never ever be like that).... They are charicteristics of God's love....

And according to the 3rd and 5th verses.... It is in us....

WHAT DOES THE WORD SAY?:

(Gal 2:20 AMP) I have been crucified with Christ [in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ (the Messiah) lives in me; and the life I now live in the body I live by faith in (by adherence to and reliance on and complete trust in) the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

SHOOT'N FROM THE HIP:

Jesus makes us an eternal promise.... And the Messiah never ever breaks His promises....

WHAT DOES THE WORD SAY?:

(Joh 15:4 AMP)
Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me.
(Joh 15:5 AMP) I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.

SHOOT'N FROM THE HIP:

If we abide in Him.... He will abide in us.... Jesus lives in and through us.... And when we stay that way.... When we allow ourselves to be pruned and cleansed (Joh 15:3
).... We bear much fruit.... But without Him.... When we go our own way.... We can do nothing.... Just like a branch cannot survive apart from the vine.... It needs the nourishment the vine provides.... And the vine gets the nourishment it supplies to the branches from the root....

It is no wonder nothing ever goes right when we try to love others with human love.... Even Jesus imitated His Father.... Jesus loves us "Just as The Father has loved Me" (Joh 15:9).... And He instructs us to "abide in My love".... The AMP says "continue in His love with Me"....

Continue in His love with Me.... This is the kind of love we should always strive for.... The love every word and action that comes from us should be coated thickly in.... The motivator behind all of it....

WHAT DOES THE WORD SAY?:

(1Co 14:1 AMP)
EAGERLY PURSUE and seek to acquire [this] love [make it your aim, your great quest]; and earnestly desire and cultivate the spiritual endowments (gifts), especially that you may prophesy (interpret the divine will and purpose in inspired preaching and teaching).
(1Co 16:14 AMP) Let everything you do be done in love (true love to God and man as inspired by God's love for us).
(1Ti 1:5 AMP) Whereas the object and purpose of our instruction and charge is love, which springs from a pure heart and a good (clear) conscience and sincere (unfeigned) faith.

SHOOT'N FROM THE HIP:

The object and purpose.... Our main thrust.... The whole enchelada.... Nothing should ever get us to stop loving other people.... Nothing should ever be able to.... Because if we are walking in God's love.... We are walking in the same love we cannot be separated from....

WHAT DOES THE WORD SAY?:

(Rom 8:35 AMP) Who shall ever separate us from Christ's love? Shall suffering and affliction and tribulation? Or calamity and distress? Or persecution or hunger or destitution or peril or sword?
(Rom 8:36 AMP) Even as it is written, For Thy sake we are put to death all the day long; we are regarded and counted as sheep for the slaughter. [Ps. 44:22.]
(Rom 8:37 AMP) Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us.
(Rom 8:38 AMP)For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers,
(Rom 8:39 AMP)Nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

SHOOT'N FROM THE HIP:

So if nothing can separate us from the love of God.... And Christ Jesus lives in and through us.... And we are to abide in God's love with Christ.... Then nothing should ever separate others from our love.... Because our love is not of us.... It does not originate in us.... It does not come from us.... It is God's love....

Like fresh whipped butter....

These things were as true last February when they were written as they were when the underlying Scripture was written, as they have been true for eternity, no doubt.

If we are not seeking it, we won't have it.

The admonition is to seek it, seek Him in it, seek it in Him, seek to be it. Abide, abide, abide.

    Put it on, wear it.

    Imitate it.

Yet, no one ever explains what we are really doing or how. No doubt the answer is simply, just do it.

More than that, no one ever explains how to desire it enough to do what it takes to walk in it consistently.

Yet, shame on us for not.

Then, I turn and I wonder, is the failure to tell someone off being passed off as love?

Self-control is, after all, a form of hypocrisy at times, don't you agree, beloved?

I think self control and cowardice are being confused.... You can tell people the truth and not be out of control.... Like my pastor said.... "If you love someone you will tell them there is a booger in their nose!"
