- God’s Word is Truth –

Rating: 2 votes, 5.00 average.
Psalm 31:5, “You have redeemed me, O LORD God of truth”
Psalm 119:160, “The entirety of Your Word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever”
__________

When a witness takes the stand, that person is asked, “Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?” At one time, the words “so help me God” were part of that oath, as an appeal to the highest authority. Daniel Webster said, “If truth be not diffused, error will be. If God and His Word are now known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy. If the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will. If the power of the gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land … corruption and darkness will reign.” Henry David Thoreau said, “Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.” My friend the Word of God is true, and we can confidently share the gospel message with anyone, knowing that it is Truth. God’s Word, which is truth, is very powerful and will turn people’s hearts toward God while at other times bring us into conflict with people who deny God’s truth. Psalm 119 serves as one of the most passionate scriptures written. If your spirit is dull or if you just need God to speak to you, turn to the words of this Psalm. The 176 verses almost without exception mentions God's Word in some form, and provide us with the best place to meditate on the connection between God's Word and the Truth.
__________

In our world there is far less truth and more corruption and error than ever before. Thus, truth is essential to all our interactions … in government, the classroom, the workplace, our neighborhoods and the home. Truth telling builds trust, and truth is at the heart of who God is (Psalm 31:5), and it is how he wants us to interact with others. As (believers in Christ) we must proclaim the truth to a lost and dying world. We must proclaim the truth found in the teachings of God’s Word. Throughout Proverbs, a book that clearly gives us God’s thinking about moral and ethical principles, the standard of truth is held very high. We find statements such as these, “He who walks with integrity walks securely (Proverbs 10:9). “The truthful lip shall be established forever” (Proverbs 12:19), and “Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD” (Proverbs 12:22). In John 18:38 Pilate asked Jesus, “What is truth?” It was the closest Pilate would come to life’s greatest discovery. Jesus had just told him that He had come into the world to bear witness to the truth. This prompted Pilate to ask, “What is truth?” The shrewd Roman politician had asked the right question of the right Person, and his answer was standing before him. However, instead of falling to his knees in repentance, confession, and faith, he could only pass on the answer by concluding, “I find no fault in Him.”

Further thoughts:

Eventually, all of us find ourselves in Pilate’s position, where we must decide about the unusual Man who claims what no other can claim, that He is the truth. Throughout history, many religious leaders have come and gone, but not one has claimed to be the truth and then proved it by rising from the dead. Millions of people down through the centuries have found Jesus’ life, His words, and His resurrection to be convincing evidence of His credibility. And they have concluded that knowing the truth must begin with a personal relationship with Christ. My friend, God’s truth cannot be refuted, never grows old, never has to be retracted and never fails, and as the psalmist stated, “It is settled in heaven.” Have you found the answer to life’s most important question: “What is truth?” If not, consider Jesus’ statement in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” The words of our Lord are the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. So, believe them, obey them and above all live by them.
__________

To know Christ is to know the truth and knowing the truth is a matter of life or death!
