Should I stay or should I go now?

Catchy tune, eh?

We've got a winter storm a brewin' here that is a nasty one. I had no idea it was going to be this bad until I overheard at work that schools were closing and the truck drivers were making comments for us to get out of Dodge or stay put. After checking the radar and growing list of school closings it took me, oh, about 5 seconds to decide that after I finished a few things I was heading home. Rural open roads aren't a pleasure to drive in a howling Minnesota winter storm.

I got teased. Comments to others in front of me like "Oh, I supposed you are going home because of the big storm too." At one point I looked at the guy and said "I got stuck in a nasty storm once, and I am never doing it again. It's completely retarded for anyone to want to drive home later when it's worse."

Now, I'm a born and raised Minnesotian. We are all crazy people. I'll drive in the snow and actually think it's kinda fun to in a sense "beat" mother nature. But this is not just a plain 'ol snow storm. However, with age and with children my common sense has kicked in somewhere along the line where I am going to look out for my behind firstat times like this. My well being isn't going to be held captive because I'm not supposed to get off until 4 or to the other crazies on the road who can't see the end of their hood either or me behind them who deemed an 8 hour day was more important than their safety or mine.

It's truly amazing to me. I will never understand it.

Hope you made it home safely, and are now cozy and warm!

I completely agree with you. A while back we had a storm during the day and everyone stayed at work even tho the reports said it was bad out, and the downtown area of the city I live near was gridlocked for hours because people couldn't get thru the snow. I think part of the problem is companies that make you feel bad or you get in trouble if you leave as well as those who are workaholics and can't lose a few dollars. My safety and my family's safety are more important than my job.
