Is it true that when we die, we will sleep until the second coming of Jesus? I came across this doctrine a few days ago and I don't know what to make of it, but it does not feel right in my spirit. I really don't know whether it would be a worthwhile study. Would it be a waste of time to explore it in more depth? I really don't know anything about it, so I would like some input from you guys. Paul said that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord and I accept that, but now I see there are other doctrines about life after death.

There's a bunch of different mythological narratives similar to The Holy Bible's.
Examples being: Creation(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_creation_myths), The Flood(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_flood_myths), and Samson(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samson#Interpretations).

Why are they so similar in some areas?
Also, I've heard varying things, but which was written first, the story of Utnapishtim or the story of Noah?
