I've been reading your other thread and even though its been only a week its been probably the hardest thing i've ever done. Its`so emotionally and physically draining. Everything hurts from the labour & I feel like i just need 48 hours to recover, but it doesn't work like that. I have really good support though which is a blessing.

Ahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been waiting for this news!!!!!!!

I'm so happy for you! I can't wait to see pictures of little William!

I'm sorry you're hurting...I can't even imagine what that would be like. For your body to go through that kind of experience, then having to be readily available 24 hours a day to do anything and everything! Praying you can get some mental and physical rest!

hey can you get the book babywise there? It is a really good book for getting the two of you in a routine. They do a Christian series, but babywise is a quick way to go through it. How is nursing coming along?

Awww, just saw this! Congratulations Jo  I can not wait to see pictures of your sweet little William. The best advice I got was 'sleep when the baby sleeps, the house can wait'.

Congratulations, Jo! I'm so happy for all of you! Lyn's right...sleep when baby sleeps...and don't try to do too much at first. This time WILL pass, although it seems like forever!

Blessings to you and your precious family!

I looked it up on the web and they sell them in Australia. I normally keep him awake after the first feed of the day and after the late afternoon feed and I find he sleeps well at night, but I'm interested in purchasing that book. Nursing was hard at first, just like everyone else, but I've got the hang of it. Its hard being on demand feed, but I guess thats just part of it. I heard your the nursing pro ;) I had a midwife come visit on Saturday and I sat her down and drilled her with questions for an hour and a half

I haven't been around since before my wedding (I don't think) so I just found out the news. I'm so happy for you! My pastor's first grandson was also born on August 30th!

no no no no, I don't demand feed. It is an eat wake sleep schedule every 3-4 hours. Problem with some is they want to go for 5 hours and that causes your milk to dry up if it is within the first 2-3 months.
And I cried for 45 min every 3 hours trying to feed my 6th kid. Man, we both cried. I don't know why I didn't give up. This last baby was easy. They are all different.
Oh and the whole nurse 20 min on each side thing is a joke. I mean there are some babies who just are slow eaters, but you aren't a pacifier. It should be less than 10 min on one side then switch, and the hind milk thing is a joke too. ooohhh the fads we have. Anyway, I am glad you both are well, hope to see pics soon.

Ohh Cynth, I knew you would be full of wisdom!! Thats why I put it out there. I feed William every four hours and I pretty much know when each feed will be. It varies a little from day to day, but I have a fair idea where my day is heading in regards to feeds. At the hospital they got me to feed up to half an hour each side and it almost sent me round the bend crazy. I was feeding for an hour or more, then I had to settle him on top of that.. I thought my life was just going to be feeding and settling. When my mum found out she looked at me in shock and said it should be 10mins each side! I felt like I was being used as a dummy. How do you know this hind milk thing is a joke?

There is so much conflicting advice out there, no wonder people go crazy when raising a child. The latest thing I have heard is you can never spoil a newborn.. :confused totally disagree. Whatever pattern you start now, will continue on when they grow older. I'm trying to wade my way through the information and pick out the good stuff from the bad, it can be quiet overwhelming. I guess you become quiet a pro after having 8 little babies ;)

oh no dear one, It was trial and err that got me here!!! It sounds as if you are the wise one. You are already doing very good things. Listen to your mum who sounds as if her advice is just right;)

the whole thing on hind milk is that if you don't nurse for longer than 15 min your baby wont get the nutrients he/she needs. Well the first part is cream and that has not only nutrients in high content, but all the fat content they need too. a few of My kids nursed for 2-4 min on one side then 2-4 min on the other and they (like the others who nursed less or a little more) were fat sassy healthy babies with very good sleeping habits and never needed to go to the doc. Then in about 2003 or 4 this thing came out about hind milk and of course there was a huge debate going on about schedule and demand feeding. Interestingly the mothers milk and le leche legue headed up the hind milk thing...who were for the demand feeding and longer the better.
I guess you have to sometimes look at trends when a new theory comes out and who puts the "facts" out.
careful on the 4 hours though. If you feel you are losing your milk, you may want to pump a little inbetween if you remember or take some motherswort or blessed thistle or goats rue to stimulate milk. oh and fresh parsley works too, just never take much when you are pg or it will cause miscarriage.
I am just so happy for you. How was the birth by the way?

Goodness! I could never get the breast feeding thing down. I tried to pump and bottle feed my youngest but good grief - do it naturally if it's working for you. A scary secret - I would pump every 4 hours and get - I kid you not - upwards of 16 - 20 oz. I thought I was gonna die.

My theory - bottle or breast - if they are hungry they will eat. When they are full, they will slow down and you'll know. You and your baby set the pattern and needs and figure it out together. Jo, seems like you are really getting it down. It will change, but once you set that foundation you and your baby will adjust just fine as time goes on and baby's needs change. :)

Oh, I can't wait to see pictures. I love babies! :pp

For me, I loved getting up in the night to nurse my son. Just the two of us in the moonlight. It's such a special time between mom and baby. :)

My little one is now 2 1/2. Where does time go? :o
