View Full Version : Struggling with temptation (Warning sexual content)

Just a warning, this may contain some adult content. Well, I have sworn off dating guys until God sends the right one my way. I am going to try to find some Christian men to become friends with. I've censored much of my reading and television viewing, because I don't want to see anything s*xual as it makes it that much harder. I still find myself with urges and wanting to "do something" about it! It's so frustrating! I have kept praying to God and reading my Bible because I want to have dreams that are not about it. I want to remain abstinate because I don't want to fall into the wordly trap.


You see my dillemma, and I have no idea what to do!:help:

There's a good book out there that will help you...'Every Young Woman's Battle' by Shannon Ethridge, Steve Arterburn and Josh McDowell.

Thanks Sold Out. I did get that book and it helps quite a lot. I have used a lot of it to keep me on track as far as sexual purity goes.

I can't understand my aversion to sp*rm though. I must be weird, because I've never heard of it:confused

I don't know, I had one person tell me I was freak, so I'm just wondering what to do. It's not a real concern right now because I'm single, but I may be married one day, so I dunno what to do.

Hi Wonder, I hear you saying you are concerned about giving into temptation yet have urges and desires which make that difficult. The thing is (from a Christian viewpoint )'temptation' does not come from God. It is one of the chief ways in which the enemy tries to draw us away from God and can be hard to resist. Even Jesus was tempted by the devil in the wilderness.

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin.

But, Jesus didn't give in and I believe he gives praying Christians the power to resist and not give in ourselves. None of us is perfect and we live in an imperfect world in which we are often told that giving into temptations is the healthy thing to do. But we are, through God's grace, able to overcome the power of sin as we resist the tempter (Satan) and giving in to the temptation. That being said:

You say you have no idea what to do..

Most of all I think you need to have a daily prayer time with the Lord, get into his Word, surround yourself with Christian friends and Christian community. (church) and trust God to give you strength and the power to overcome temptations, sexual or otherwise.

And, no matter what someone tells you..it is healthy and good for you to want to practice abstinence now. Sexual intimacy within the boundaries of Christian marriage is definitely healthy and worth waiting for.
Keep resisting he who is the source of the temptation.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Focus on the good things around you..keep busy and read the Word. Also I would recommend Victory Over the Darkness or The Bondage Breaker by Neil T. Anderson. Both are good for helping us realize our true identity in Christ so to receive the freedom from the things which keep us from living a better and happier Christian life.

Philippians 3:8-9 "...whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me (Paul writes this by the Holy Spirit) or seen in me--put it into practice.
And the God of peace will be with you.

Yep..that kind of focusing..on Godly things..does bring peace.

It needs practice.
