View Full Version : Rebelling to the world by being a Christian

Hello, I'm more of a lurker with an odd post here and there in forums.

I can't explain it, I seem to be really eager to become a member in BibleForums, usually I just leave whenever I can't be a full member to a forum I've registered with right away.

I come from a country where Catholicism is dominant, and Bible really takes a backseat to rituals. I am not a Catholic anymore because of the Bible, I befriended it when I was hungry for more of God, and came to the realization that although I was born and raised a Catholic, I could simply be free of the rituals that left me feeling empty.

I hope I'll be welcome here. thank you for building this community.

Maybe I'll give you the wrong impression, but the thread title have no relation to my being a former Catholic.

To expound, I am realizing more and more that this world is really going to the path of excessive hedonism, and being a Christian is a form of rebelling against that. I believe it is harder to stick with faith than do all those things that are termed forms of rebellion. I hope I made sense. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. :)

Hello Timsel and welcome. I am also a former Catholic. When I very first became a born again Christian I thought I would still attend the Catholic church. I quickly realized that I could not continue to go to Catholic mass every Sunday, too empty. I needed and desired a church where we are guided in the word of God and are encouraged to read our bible everyday and seek the Lord Jesus in prayer and fellowship also everyday. I do not like to talk negative about anyone, but let's be honest, the Catholic church does not encourage personal bible reading and it is never known to have it's members bring a bible to church with them. Continue to ask Christ daily to guide you and he will. God Bless.

Thank you so much ConquredbyLove, Quiet Dove, Redneck Charger, LivingWaters, CDO, SFASH, Buckeye Doug, and PinkRoses for the welcome.:)

LivingWaters, SFASH, and PinkRoses, I am glad I you too are former Catholics and shared it to me and us.

PinkRoses, I know what you mean, yes looking back now there was a sort of emptiness with my being a former believer of that faith. Rediscovering the Bible and just having a one on one communion with the Living Word enlightened me and uplifted me in so many ways no amount of repetitive prayers ever did.

The grand and visually pleasing ceremonies on masses left me feeling sort of scared of Him and saw God merely as someone aloof, but reading it with the guide of the Holy Spirit taught me that God also felt joy, sorrow, and anger, very human characteristics in His excessive love for us His rebellious creations that are prone to falter and disobey Him.

Again, my profuse thanks to you all.:)
