See how she lies, oddly bent,
Twisted backwards, body spent,
Scars under her wrist tattoos,
Sleeves to cover the darkened bruise,
Kept her heart on the top shelf,
Because she did it, all to herself.
Slowly her light went out,
In her mind she screamed to shout,
A mess for a life, a shadow for a song,
A drink for the crowd, a kiss just to belong,
But she still couldn't take away itself,
Because she did it, all to herself.
Cold and numb, she stares now at the ceiling,
It's what she did to keep her soul from feeling,
Empty, vacant, and now never to return,
It's what she wanted, her deepest yearn,
No one could save her from herself,
Because she did it, all to herself.
A cherished hope, a lost spirit,
She didn't see, she didn't feel it,
Her meaning had vanquished, Her hope had died,
Cast out carelessly with the drifting tied.
She did not mean to hurt herself,
But she knew she did it to herself.
The right bottle and a simple rope,
Was all she needed to help cope,
Her burden was heavy and the timing seemed good,
She had the right chair, she knew where she stood,
No one to stop her, just by herself,
And so she did it, all to herself.
