View Full Version : Learning to pray out loud around others

When you have prayer and quiet time, do you prayer on different topics at different times throughout the day? Such as...praying for you loved one at one time, praying for our country and the things going on in our country at another time. Then praying for people that are sick at another time and so on. Or do you pray for all of these people/situations during the same prayer time?

I know that it doesn't matter how we say it, because God still hears our prayers, but I want to work on getting better so that I can become comfortable praying out loud around others, whether it's during prayer time at church or praying over others that are at the alter. Right now I'm just not comfortable enough with the way I pray to do it out loud around others. I've listened to other's praying around me and they all do it so effortless and beautifully.

I also want to learn how to pray in situations like if one of the patients in the nursing home asks me to pray for them or with them. Or if someone asks me to say the blessing when a group of us go out to eat after church.

Can anyone help me with any of this? Can anyone share some prayers with me that I can use as examples so that I can learn to put prayers in my own words.

Did you see this thread? http://bibleforums.org/forum/showthread.php?t=133455

It is about a book study I did last year and it helped my prayer life.

Notice how uncomfortable Peter was, not about his prayer but in the predicament he was in. Notice that he prayed out loud around others. Mmmm notice how effortlessly Peter prayed this prayer and beautiful (?)!!

But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me." Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
(Mat 14:30-31)

Now notice how short and intense his prayer was (he cried out loud). And who was the prayer directed to? And lastly notice that even a prayer of 'little faith' was answered immediately.
In other words don't be necessarily taken in by 'effortless and beautifully said' prayers...God sees the heart's need before you pray.
