I have been going to a new church for a few weeks now. Before I began going to this church, I would only attend church services on Sunday mornings. But I now go on Sunday mornings, evenings and Wednesday evenings. I know I'm supposed to give a tenth of my income, but I would like to know how I'm supposed to split up my tithing since I'm going to three services a week. Right now I divide it up and give the same amount to all three services. But is this the correct way that I should be doing it? What about Sunday School class, some people give money during SS. Are you supposed to give money in SS class, or is that something that is optional? What is that money going for? Is the money that you give during SS also considered part of your tithing?

I'll probably learn money about the church's finances and where the money goes next Saturday at the orientation breakfast.

I'm sure others will post giving you a specific dollar amount, lets say a tenth of your income. But, I live by Paul's epistles:

2 Corinthians 9:7 - Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

I don't give a tenth, third, half or any particular amount every sunday and tuesday. I just give what I can.

If God's Spirit moves you to tithe wouldn't it be easier to tithe once a week or two weeks or whenever your payday usually comes around instead of trying to split it up? It's not like you're paying admission to go to church. Nowhere does it say in the Bible that tithing is linked to how many times you go to church.

I hadn't thought about it that way. I guess I was thinking of paying at all services in case the money goes to different ministries within the church. But I could still pay the same amount by just paying once a month on Sunday mornings, once on Sunday evenings and once on Wednesday evenings. I should learn more about the church's finances and where the money goes at the orientation breakfast next Saturday. I only get paid at the beginning of the month so I put 10 percent from that aside for tithes.

I pay my tithe on payday, like a bill. I use my bank's bill pay service and it goes directly to the church. If you want to designate certain amounts to certain ministries you can do that either with separate checks or even by putting a note in the memo of one check. Since you get a monthly check it is fine to just make one monthly tithe payment. It might make the bookkeeping easier for the church treasurer if you do it that way, rather than putting in little dribbles here and there.

Pay the church in one sum via bank deposit. ;)

Tithing in the OT actually rounded out to about 23% and it was all food. Some for Levites, widows, orphans, aliens.

In the new testament ten percent tithes arnt mentioned of us, but instead we hear many stories about how believers gave up all their possessions, and that we should as well. So, I would say we are to give even more now.

In the 1st century church the believers put all the money in the middle and just helped in every area where there was need, now we give to a religious building and a pastor so that these buildings can grow and be maintained in fact we spend almost 500 billion dollars a year on them. What makes this so interesting is that the Bible says that we are all a holy priesthood, not a certain person. Even Paul worked for his ministry, so that he would not need to take anyones money.

I have been seeking God concerning tithing for awhile now and have been through the many thought processes posted here and honestly God continues to give me insight but not the revelation, but this is what I've come to; We should give, no doubt about it the question is how much, it doesn't matter if the ministries and Pastor are making 500 billions dollars God will deal with them, but most importantly I believe is that you give to God, what is on your heart to give, hey a tenth is a good starting point, but listen to what God says to your heart.
I put my tithes in through Internet banking it's easy to set up if your ministry has the option and you pay it how ever you want, and if you can't for whatever reason, don't allow others to make you feel guilty about not paying, God looks at your heart not your wallet.

Be Blessed all

I'm just been putting my tithes in the tray instead of placing them in an envelope. But I'm thinking about giving a certain amount to different things within the church. I just don't know how I should split it up among the choices. The envelopes also has a place to put your name and address on the envelopes, but I don't think it's anyone's business how much I chose to give. God is the only one that needs to know that.

Below are all of the options that are written on the tithing envelopes.

Sunday School
Family Training Hour
Women's Ministry
General Funds
Home for Children
Missions
Offering for Pastor
Building Fund

tithing in the NT is generally used to reference sin (Pharisaic legalism). Instead, we are told to be generous, after all it is Gods money that is in our wallets....

We give once weekly (Sunday morning service). Our church does take any money collected on Wed night service and give directly to someone in need. Otherwise all the money is pooled into one place and distributed accordingly. I'm sure most churches do it that way.

Also, a church should be very transparent about where the money goes. There should be business meetings where the budget is discussed and voted on. We have business meetings every quarter and everyone in the church gets a copy of the budget with how/where the money is spent. Financial accountability is very important.
