It rolls in, like a smothering blanket, like a fog
And builds momentum as I watch the advance
Knowing that unlike rain, no umbrella will help
No overhang will keep me from being drenched
The onslaught comes, and here I stand waiting
In my mind's eye, I see a hill, picture a lone figure
Waiting for the world's sin to advance, to take over
Knowing that His Father will raise Him once more
Bearing the burden, becoming the shelter for us all
So that when we face the trials, we'll stand with Him
For I know that feelings are unreliable, poor friends
The storm asks to be ridden out; Christ asks me, too
Knowing that to hang on might mean strength, later
To feel the downpour that won't kill me, won't melt me
So as to emerge on the other side, still with Christ.
