I was recently browsing one of those charity/donation sites, to be alittle more specific i mean a sponsor a child type site. And i couldnt hold back the tears as i read the stories and when i saw those poor children. I want to do something, get involved, be a regular giver but im not sure. Ive never done this before , can these organizations be trusted ? I mean ive heard things about these places before i was saved but im not sure how reliable that information was/is.
I'd really like to hear from someone who has or already is a regular contributer to such organizations before i make a decision.

I personally know people involved with World Vision, both working for the company and sponsors. Right now I can't quote to you the percentage of each dollar that goes to the child, but I figure the numbers are available for the asking.

I know a CCM group in Nashville who sponsors a whole village, and they've even been to visit it a few times. Each band member also sponsor several kids at a time all the way to the "out" age. When that happens, they get another kid. I don't think they'd be pouring their money into this if they didn't feel it was being done in a good way.

I have yet to be in the financial position to do something like this, so I can't help you with the personal testimony.

There are some I can recommend to you that are legit

The place that my wife and I give is Gospel for Asia. Their main focus is reaching people with the gospel first and their physical needs second. They have a bridge of hope program for the dalit children as well, and you can get a copy of there audit to see that everything goes to the field.

Go to www.gfa.org

also there are some other organization that I think are legit:
Gospel for Africa
Voice of the martyrs

Look at: 1. Their mission statement - see how often Christ is mentioned; and 2. Their newsletter - see how often Christ is mentioned. Saving their bodies is all well and good but if it doesnt also save their souls then it's ultimately and unfortunately useless.

Revinius, that was my thinking as well. Someone mentioned Christian children's fund, thats the org i was thinking of contributing to.They appear to be quite legit according to their accountability profile, but im wondering how "christian" are they ? I know little about them aside from what ive heard and read on their website(s).
I was also thinking perhaps i should just forget the whole idea and send money to Gideons to put more Bibles in the hands of more people, assuming they will read it .:dunno:

You could check to see if there is a Gospel rescue mission or Salvation Army in your town, cause they can always use the help. The holiday seasons are approaching, and there may be churches in your area who use them as an outreach opportunity. There are plenty of great options to give and be sure that souls come before everything else.

No, they can not all be trusted. Many of them keep most of the money they raise and call it "administrative cost." However, there are many perfectly reputable organizations that truly do the work of the Lord.
Holt International is an excellent organization to sponsor a child through. Most of the money they collect goes to the child. Their administrative costs are very low. Just check out whoever you choose to sponsor a child through. There are good organizations and there are bad ones. The only one I can tell you for sure is perfectly reputable is Holt International.

Maybe im just a softy and i breakdown when i see poor starving children but yes salvation should always be the number one goal. Ive already made several one time donations to outreach and Gideons but now im talking regular financial contributions. This has bin on my mind for awhile now and my spirit has bin broken.

I think that's really cool. Keep praying and seeking God's will in where you should commit. I think you'll know it when it's the right one.

Mission organisations are often the way to go, either through your church or on your own you can get involved in them and send packages to missionaries and support them in teaching/pastoring those in other countries.

Ok ive finally decided, after all this time, to make a commitment to sending regular financial contributions to support not so fortunate children. I made this decision after I met a couple of christians from my local church who are regular child sponsors, they actually support an entire family ! and they even flew to thier country/village to visit them in person ! I was amazed at what these two people were doing in love, and there I was doing nothing ! Thats about to change. Ive already filled out the forms, and will be another sponsor of compassion's children's advocacy network.

Thank you Lord for answering my prayer and sending those two dear people to open my eyes.
