View Full Version : Me and the new dryer... a story of lessons learned

Okay so I'm really weird. I like getting up early and taking care of some of the house work. Last night we had to purchase a new dryer. The heating element went out in the old one (or something... anyways it quit heating up). So this morning I do my laundry just like I do every morning. Well it seems that this new dryer has an alarm that goes off when the laundry is done drying. And it's LOUD.... This is a good thing because almost deaf me can hear it! But for some reason the alarm will go off and then a few minutes later it goes off again. :hmm: Don't know why really...

Now the only thing bad about this was that it was 5 am... and when the alarm kept going off, my husband was still sleeping, or at least attempting too. He was not too cheerful this morning.

So the moral of the story... no more drying clothes at 5 am.

My mom has a dryer like that, but I think she can also turn off the buzzer when she wants to. You might take a look.

Congrats on the new dryer. :)

Yeah I looked... this one doesn't have that option. That's okay though. I'll just try to time it so it goes off at 6:30 when he has to get up.:D:saint:

(kidding...)

Thanks for the congrats! The dryer we had was well over 15 years old... probably closer to 20 really. It really was time anyway.

 Poor guy! That is one of the worst sounds in the world! Especially to wake up to in the morning! But I'll bet you he is happy he has a closet full of clean clothes due to your laundry habits!

Doing clothes at five in the morning! How come you aren't sleeping now? I would be zonked out if I got up that early in the morning....

Anyway...I had different settings on my dryer and this one setting will do that...it does the regular heating then goes into cool down so when you finally get the clothes you aren't burning your hands getting them out. Its nice but it does this buzzing too which is very loud! Its to let you know the clothes are done and you get so many warnings to get the clothes out so they won't get wrinkled sitting in the dryer. Mine goes off I think four times...hate it... I think one buzz is plenty! I feel like I am being nagged to get the clothes out by a machine!

I like to get mine out as soon as they are done so they don't get wrinkled. There is another setting that doesn't buzz but also doesn't have this cool down. The problem with it is it would just stop...and I wouldn't know then the clothes would sit in there getting wrinkled....so I started using this other setting..even though its annoying as all get out!

Good luck with this! Your husband might want to take it back and find a non buzzing one....you early bird you! gee its still dark at five in the morning!! wowie!

Well, you could still do clothes at 5am, just be aware of how much time is left on the drying cycle and take the clothes out before the alarm goes off.

I suffer from insomnia so I've been known to clean house at 3am. For some reason I have a lot of energy at those early hours, so I figure I might as well accomplish something.

Moonglow I bet that's it! This one does have a new anti-wrinkle setting. I bet that's what it is! Thank you!!

I function well at 5... I actually get up at 4... but I don't handle nights well. I am completely a morning person.

Yeah, I've heard of people like you. :hmm: LOL!! I didn't see the part about 4 until I quoted you (I use the brown version of the board), but now I can see it. :D

Unfortunately, I'm not a morning person, but I still go to work between 7 & 7:30 in the mornings. Of course, I don't wake up until about 10 :P.

moonglow, my dryer buzzes several times, too...I never thought about why, though, just that it's annoying.

We had an adventure with our washer a couple of weeks ago. Threw a load of clothes in one morning and it filled with water but wouldn't agitate or spin. Dh tried unplugging/resetting it, and still nothing. So we figured the motor was broken, stopped by Lowe's that evening and they had a washer very similar to ours on clearance. Got it home, got the old one outside and hooked up the new one. I guess the settings on it were different - it filled up and then sat for a minute, so I thought it wasn't working either. Dh plugged the old one in outside to prove it wasn't working...and it worked perfectly. The motor must have been jammed and all the jostling around to get it outside fixed it. So, lesson learned: next time try kicking it first. :D ;)

So you sleep in the afternoon or evenings? I am more awake in the afternoons....though many nights I don't sleep that well either but I sure don't have the energy to get up and clean house like Jeanne D! In the past (years ago) sometimes I would get up and watch TV...some good movies on in the middle of the night!

lol...ok I guess I shouldn't laugh. So what did you do with two working washer? :hmm:

I had problems with Nate's shoes jamming in the dryer before...causing it to stop working....but once I pried them out it worked ok...

God bless

I don't mind. :D We returned the new one, and the old one has been working fine since.

I also do laundry early in the morn. And can clean house really early in the morn. I get everything done early and have more time to do other things.

Thank goodness no alarm! But my timer on stiove is kind of like that if you do not turn it off a certain way. I just don't use that timer. I know the dryer is different!
