View Full Version : Need Advice: Is God Talking to Me??

I read the message by 'Fisher' about being a minister, and I have decided to ask my own question.

You see, most of my adult life I have been a Christian, in my head. Through circumstances that I deem private, it has only been recently that I became a Christian in my heart and soul. But here's the thing:

Since I was born again, I pray daily. Its imortant to me that I do this, and not because of any ritual. I try to guard against that. But its like having my morning coffe and breakfast: its just tough to get going without my morning talk with Christ. One of the things I pray for is that Christ show me the path I should be choosing. I suppose at 50 its kind of late for that, but I'm tired of doing everything on my own. I want, I need His guidance. Since I've started praying, things have been happening.

1. My work situation has, uh, become more intense. 2. When I'm down, it seems that reading my Bible gives me a lift like I've never had before. (I absolutely love the 'Sermon on the Mount') 3. I found this forum quite accidently (I typed in a google search asking the same question, and here I am) 4. Reading about, learning about Christ has become one step short of obsession. And I don't just mean Biblically. Lee Strobel has written some fascinating books, the most influencial being "Case for the Real Jesus.' And you would be amazed at how many different views there are about Christ.

These things, and more, have lead me to ask my question. Is He telling me something? Should I be doing something? Am I just being crazy? How do I know? What I do is simply try to live each day as best I can. maybe someone here can provide more insight.

You are enjoying a 'honeymoon' period in your Christianity. Everything is fresh, real, relevant and exciting. Your hunger for the things of God is evidence that the Holy Spirit is alive in you!

On the flip side though, anyone knows that honeymoon's do not last. We float back down to planet earth and have to deal with reality. Establish your spiritual schedule now (as it seems you have) and your consistency will fare you well when you are not on a high spiritually. It's so important to get grounded during this time. Just enjoy it.

Dear brother,

I have come to understand that there are three different calls in our walk with Christ on this foreign land we call Earth:

1. Call to salvation
2. Call to sanctification
3. Call to serve

Just as I experienced the filling that you are experiencing in a huge way, once you are full, God starts pressing you to pour what you've been given into others otherwise you become stagnant and disillusioned (think of the Dead Sea, everything goes in but nothing comes out, no life). If you heed this call to serve, not only does He fill you again, but each time it seems that He increases our capacity. Also, #2 and #3 are not independent or unique, they are continual and provoke each other. So as SoldOut said, enjoy the honeymoon and be ready follow our Father whither He leads you.

In Christ's love, stoo

That is such a blessing that you have such a desire to learn about Christ! That is wonderful, also what He is doing in your heart! It is never too late, dear brother.

There is no reason for that flame to go out if you continue to feed it. The Holy Spirit is the One Who loves to reveal Christ to us! Indeed, Jesus said in John that "He (the Holy Spirit) shall glorify Me for He shall take of mine and show it unto you". It is the Holy Spirit's absolute delight to reveal Jesus and His beauty to us!

The one thing He might be telling you is to make certain you get your primary knowledge of Jesus from Scripture. Believe me, the depths of Christ can never be plunged and it is through Scripture we want to get our knowledge of Him from. There is nothing wrong with reading Strobel, (I have) but make certain you get your firsthand knowledge of Jesus through Scripture.

I spent years just parked in the Gospels and Hebrews studying our Saviour and I found the Jesus I never knew. Those are the most precious and fruitful years of my Christian life (about 7 out of 30+) I studied how He relates to the needy, the hurting the sinner the outcasts the fearful and on and on.

Stay very close to Him through prayer and studying Him in the Scriptures, learn to hear His voice for yourself and, when He wishes to lead you onward, then you will know because you will recognize His voice

I could not possibly add to the excellent and thoughtful counsel on this thread Dale 1257. I'm just thrilled about what you are experiencing in the Lord. And as far as the question goes: "is He talking to me?" I would say,
stay tuned, there's more to come.

I remember my honeymoon period. All warm and fuzzy inside and full of zeal. Once reality set in I realized I had more sins I had to repent of than I thought and learned to overcome as the years went by with God's help. We're creatures of habit us flesh and blood humans and in our natural state we pick up a lot of bad habits including sins like drugs, alcohol abuse, promiscuity, smoking. As you grow in Christ you can overcome sin with His help, not only are you forgiven but are also given the strength to overcome sin as well simply by asking for it. The goal may be eternal life in God's Kingdom but the journey there has it's own rewards along the way. Dale, things will only get better for you as long as you stay the course, there will be bumps along the way but that's good, like the flesh body the spirit needs exercise to stay in shape or it stagnates like someone said. God will test you now and then and will always give you a way out if you are ever in over your head. You're never too old to be saved.
