Sinking in a pit of despair
Reaching for friends who are no longer there
What did I do? Where did I go wrong?
Why do I no longer belong?
Men are fickle and insecure things
Born into sin with all the troubles that brings
We often reach out in our pain
To find no one willing to help, so our tears fall like rain
When we finally figure it out
It leaves us on our own, our heart full of doubt
We realize we can't trust or rely on a mere man
Since no one cares about us like only we can
So life becomes a struggle, a fight
To get what we can, doing anything we feel is right
After all we say all is fare in love and war, don’t we?
In our race for things and possessions we fail to see
See the people we hurt when we think only of me
When “friends” need help or are hurting we often flee
Wanting only what makes us feel “good”
We will ignore others, saying they would do the same if they could
So we walk this planet caring for no one
Doing our own thing, having our fun
When will we figure out that it’s not a game?
The score isn’t kept with fortune or fame
Help each other when they reach out for you
Do what in your heart you know is the right thing to do
That is the thing God wants from us
Not to throw each other under the bus
So next time you fall into that pit of despair
Reach out to God, He has always been there
Reaching for friends who are no longer there
What did I do? Where did I go wrong?
Why do I no longer belong?
