View Full Version : Starting a running regimen

Well, now that it's starting to cool off where I live and it's no longer staying in the low 90s even at night, I've decided to start jogging 3 miles a night as the last thing I do before I go to bed (well, apart from a shower afterwards).

I just did it for the first time and I'm definitely feeling the results of not having led an active lifestyle for the last three years. I was only able to jog in spurts, but I'll get better with time and consistency. I may add some weightlifting and such to my routine at a later date but the muscle mass I gained when I used to lift consistently before I stopped exercising three years ago has stuck with me and right now I'm mostly concerned with losing that flab I've let build up around my midsection.

I feel pretty good right now (endorphins or something, right?) and I'm praying that God gives me the resolve to do this every single night without fail. Prayers from everyone here would also be greatly appreciated. :D

a good running program for beginning runners is the "Couch potato to 3K" program. Google it and see if it works for you.

Also, if you run with an iPod, search the podcast section for the same term. There is a free podcast that has music timed to the program.

Well, it's been about 2 weeks since you started your nightly runs. Have you hit the road each night?

With the exception of a couple of nights, so far I've managed to make it out every night.

I really need to get some headphones so I can have some music while I'm out...
