View Full Version : Man Night

I want to get a bunch of guys from my church into a man-night sort of thing. There's already a man breakfast that happens about once a month, but I want something with a bit more...action. Not just a cool breakfast. Even though it is still good and we have a Bible-study afterward, I want to do something a step-up in manliness.
I've been doing some thinking and want to do something manly, but with God still at the focal point.
Manly things I thought of:
Sparring/fighting matches
Laser-tag
Paintball
Manly movie (i.e. Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers)
Pizza and Hot Wings for dinner (with Root Beer, Mountain Dew, and Yoohoo)
Talk about things that all men should know
I was wondering what some of everybody's ideas were..? And also how to bring God into all of our manly activities.
Praying before and after is a definite obvious.
Also, some of the people that I am thinking of inviting into this are about 14 years old (and older of course). So far, the oldest dudes agreeing to this are 17 years old (and I am 20). So it may only be a bunch of "younglings", but maybe a few adults as well.
f you have ANY ideas, please let me know! I really want this to happen, and I think the fellowship between Christian guys is needed.

More fellowship is a good thing.
I wonder if you might get more support for this in a young adult / college age mens fellowship? The activities you are talking about are probably of more interest to the under 25 (under 30?) set.... ?
I could be wrong.

This is true...however I know for a fact that my pastor and a few other older men from my church play paintball (all over 40).
My church has quite an interesting set of adults, I must say. Some might like a lot of these ideas, just knowing who they are.
The sparring/fighting matches are probably a bit much, but who knows? I don't have anything set in stone just yet.
And I just thought of one other thing, which is a football game. Not necessarily tackle (even though that could happen), but more of a two-hand touch sort of football game.

I think the important thing is that you seem to have a vision for more men's fellowship... GO FOR IT.
Pray, talk to the church leadership.. and then just do it. Good luck with your vision, I will pray it goes well. :D

1) Nothing more manly than guns. Go shooting. Target or trap. Lot's of fun. There will be a lot of bragging rights to the best shooter. Teach the teenagers responsible gun handling.
2) Video game tournament. Sports are good ones if you don't want all the blood and guts games.
3) A science museum. Lots of cool things to see there.
4) Go to a NFL or college football game. God loves America, apple pie, and football.
5) Might be the wrong time of year but a local car show. Horsepower is definitely manly.

I never thought of video games...hooray! New idea!
I am however unfortunately too far away from any good museums. There is one...but it's pretty bad.
And it is true - there is nothing more manly than weapons. Swords, sticks, guns...you name it.
But the biggest question is how to tie God into it all....hhhhmmmmmmm....I shall use my intense imagination for this!

Shooting is great!
Another thing we used to do and need to start doing again is getting together a fishing day! We used to go and build a nice fire and set around it and visit and fish when they were biting. :pp

Fishing would be good if it wasn't so cold. I'm still in upstate New York, which means it's pretty cold. And by pretty cold, I mean uncomfortably cold.
Maybe when I visit New York in the summer I should do that.

The Men's Group at my church does:
- Paintball (they get together every 2 months and have at it for 6 hours)
- 4X4 (once a month 4x4 expedition)
- Motorcycle (Bi-Monthly road trips)
- Golf (once every 3 months)
- UFC (They meet for every major UFC telecast. They watch & cheer during the fights & pray & worship between fights)
- Anything RC 9just started up and a bit sporadic)
The College group also has a car club in which they race at the Firebird Raceway (legal racing), and enter different car shows.
They also have a softball team, and a group that runs 1/2 & full marathons & Ironman competitions.
They also do things like "Daddy's date night" where it's just Dad & his Daughter(s). Usually it's at a WNBA game, but they've also done group tickets to concerts & movies. Plus they offer various group studies of for building and strengthening family values and relationships.

Wow, I really like that idea. My church has Iron Man breakfast, but that's it. My church I think needs a little bit more physical stuff like yours. I wish I thought of this sooner so it could have been a re-occurring event.
But thanks for letting me know.

That was one of the things that kept me coming back to my church, just how active their men's & woman's groups are and the variety of fellowship and activity they offer. Keep in mind though... I attend a mega-church that currently draws about 6,000 people each Sunday, so there is a large resource pool they are able to draw from.

I see...my church is rather small. Everybody knows everybody - BUT...I am not going to make that an excuse! Since we all know each other, I should start up something...
