I just read this book called "Embrace the Power of Truth" by Peter Sheehan. He has come up with a system to find truth and the lord in your life by visualizing yourself as a boat on the ocean. He outlines how to steer awy from storms of life and to watch for signs of sea sickness. I've been trying it and already have had smooth sailing! Check it out.

I haven't read the book, but I would be a little suspicious of any book that claims it holds the key to transforming one's life. It is true that any book can inspire a person, but the only book that can truly transform someone's life is the Bible. While God has used dreams and visions in the past (mostly in Bible times), I am less inclined to believe some man's dream holds truth, especially one claiming "The ocean is truth." Jesus said in John 14:6,
"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (KJV)
Since you claim you aren't a Christian but are searching, I just want to caution you. As believers, Christians are to compare any new (or old) teaching to the Bible first and foremost before accepting it. The best example of this is shown in Acts 17:10-11,
"That very night the believers sent Paul and Silas to Berea. When they arrived there, they went to the synagogue. And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul's message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to check up on Paul and Silas, to see if they were really teaching the truth." (NLT)
Though, the book you're recommending could be perfectly fine. I am eager to see if anyone else on this forum has read it and what their opinion is of it.

The 'way of the cross' guarantees hardship and persecution. Frankly, if you arent experience some sort of challenge in your life, you have to be very careful you arent being comfortable in your faith (which is a precursor to falling away).
The life Jesus calls us to is not one of comfort but one of toil and sometimes a heck of a alot of struggle.

I'm all for getting the best out of life but I think there's a new gimmick going around that falsely teaches you that the goal of the believer is to enjoy their life and escape as much pain as possible.
That's quite contrary to what Jesus says in the Beatitudes about suffering, that we are to embrace it. 1 Corinthians 1:5 says that in the sufferings of Christ are the consolations of Christ. Now I'm not saying go and be a martyr. What I am saying is see Jesus through the storm. Embrace the suffering as the greater glory for the sake of the Gospel.
Just to be clear I am not against all "positive" programming or books. They have their place. In fact I am an avid watcher of Joyce Meyer but not all of her teachings are completely 100% beneficial to me. I believe she is a true woman of God, and her shows have helped me get out of the pit and back onto my feet. When all other Gospel/Christian shows were appaling and too "rough" for me as a backslider, these ones somehow worked into my life underneath my pain and lifted me up into the clear. I will say however that one cannot gain a powerful testimony from *consistently* feeding on nothing but baby formula (positive and uplifting messages). They must eat the true meat of the Word, the stuff that God has prepared for those who are maturing and growing and being formed up with a great testimony and evangelical purpose.

I believe the Bible does that best.
