I don't see a problem with it as long as
1) it doesnt take priority over God
2) it doesnt compromise your christian values
3) it doesnt get used outside of the oct. for evil purposes.

The real question is if it's God's will for you life. I watch football, boxing and the MMA(UFC mostly)
There are athletes in all sports that use that position to glorify God.
I suggest you pray about it. It's not a question of right or wrong. When we ask that question we are just eating from the tree of knowledge. The real question if it's his will for your life.

Its a form of competitive sport. I actually enjoy watching these events since I had martial arts and grappling experience. For the most part from what I see, the participants respect each other deeply and as soon as the fight ends, they exchange encouraging words, high-five, embrace...etc. As long as it is strictly competitive, I don't see a problem with it. Its not like the other competitor is unaware he may get hit when stepping into the ring. However, I do have an aversion to those fighters who appear malicious and are excessive beyond the necessities of competition.

While you are actually involved in a 'fight'/ bout do you love the other person? Some people switch off their faith when they go to work. Or when they socialise. Or when they do sport.
It is not enough to love your opponent most of the time, before and after the sport. Do you love your challenger during the fight? I personally couldn't hit and kick someone for sport, and at the same time be loving them. But that's just me, perhaps other people can? SofTy.

Hey Softy,
Thanks...you really gave a thought provoking post. Made me think about
sports and competition in general.
And...
Though I agree with the premise...that love should be our motivation.
If the question were asked: What do you think are God's thoughts on
baseball?
You in turn could ask me: Do you love the pitcher as you bat. I, in all
honesty can't answer that I do, or ever have thought that while in the
batters box. My focus is always on getting on base or advancing the
runner. (a sacrifice) ;)
The question could be asked of ping pong, all the way to checkers or
goldfish. I feel the answers would be the same. At least for me. The
focus is on the situations that arise during the game.
Although the answers may be due to my immaturity in Christ.
Although I've had chances to witness after the game. Usually the way you
play can help your witness to someone that is not of Christ. Or can be
edifying to another brother or sister.
I've also seen many youth pastors use sports as a way of drawing the
unchurched in so they can be ministered to afterward.
I hope I'm making sense.
Anyways thanks for makin me think, :hmm:
Still thinkin,

Competition is no fun if the other person lets you win. We are to do our best in everything we do. Doing our best glorifies God. Is there any job (that is not based in sin such as prostitution, porn, drugs etc.) that cannot be done to the glory of God?

Check this out. I love what Paul says.
1 Corinthians 9:25-27
25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. 27No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
Train hard and do well at this sport, but dont' do it to "knock someones face in" or to "kill them" as I have heard some fighters say. Use you talent for the glory of God. When you are training, witness to someone, when you are at a fight always be a road sign that points to Jesus. Let others see Christ in you everywhere you go, especially when you are fighting.

Gen 32:24 ¶ And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. {breaking...: Heb. ascending of the morning}
25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. {Israel: that is, A prince of God}
29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
When Jacob wrestled with the Man, God gave him his new name.
I would think God will just your intent more than your action. Why do you want to be a great fighter? Is it to glorify God to to be the toughest man you can be (glorifing self).
Search your motive, if it is right, there can be no fault in it, IMHO ;)
