View Full Version : ...Then it hit me like a falling acorn.... My Experience With God

So I'm new here and as my first order of business I thought I would share my (for lack of a better word) experience with God.

So my parents are Christian, except a flaw that they, and my whole family, had was that we didn't go to church every Sunday. Sure we had friends that did that, we were nice people, but I don't know why we never did.

Then we moved to Tennessee (Two words: BIBLE BELT). Almost everyone went to church if you were Christian. Now let's go to my Junior year of High School. I had made friends that went to church, and I went more frequently with them. Particularly with one friend I started going with once, maybe twice a month with. He eventually invited me to a HighSchool Fall church retreat and I agreed to it. This was right about the time that I was having a hard time with stuff, and sort of questioning God:giveup:

This church retreat was GREAT for two reasons: (1) we talked about things that were important to US both God related and not so God related. (2) This was the first time that God had made Himself obvious to me, and that he was there and watching me, and taking care of me.

The whole idea of this 3-day weekend event was around 45 mins of "silent time" every 5-6 hours. In this silent time, we all got quiet, walked around the campground (it was huge), prayed, read the bible, got more closer to the Lord... So I found myself sitting under a tree, and every now and then an acorn (what I believed to be anyway) fell from the tree. So I read and prayed, and on one of the prayers I said something like "God, I just really want you to show yourself to me and help me with all this stuff.":help: And so I just sat there and waited, not for anything in particular though.

A minute went by and everything was dead silent, and then I heard above my head an acorn gettin ready to fall. It finally fell, and it landed right on my Bible, which was on my lap! This is one of those moments that just made me feel two things: (1) God was there and (2) WOW.

Long story short, it really renewed my faith in Him, and I've strived to be a better Christian. I plan on getting Baptised soon because of this. :)
