View Full Version : My First Tattoo and my first tattoo item

I have never had a tattoo. My cousin is covered with them and my dad told me before he died that if I got one he would kill me. However, I have been thinking of getting one of Jesus on my forearm. His face and would be created by arranging the text of the sermon on the mount into the shape of his profile. Many of you have probably seen the poster of that. My question is
1) Is that a cool tattoo? It would remind me to behave like that sermon says and it would make a good ice breaker.
2) Would my dad be offended if he were alive.

I looked but I couldn't find one exactly like the one I want on the web. Here is one but I don't like it because it is a bit too catholic for me. However the technique is similar. But in the one I want It's Jesus's profile and the entire sermon on the mount makes up his face. There isn't any text on the border outside his picture like there is with this one:

Is that even possible on the amount of space a forearm provides?

I think you should be prepared for Boucoup $$ to be shelled out on that, and I would only take it to someone who is very, very good.

Do what you think God wants you to do? Do you think Jesus wants you to ink the temple of God? I beleive not. There is a way you can justify tattooing yourself after you claim to be a Christian, When people ask why, you can say `` I am a IDIOT.:B What an insult to our Lord Jesus who bleed for you and died for you. A tat of Him' with the old covenant, MOCKERY, why not tattoo a joint in his mouth and a bottle of jacks in his hand then you can really relate to whom ever you think may become save from hell.

The bible is rightly divided. Those were God's instructions to the jews before Christ. The law was abolished once Christ came to save people through blood baptism.

God led me to the tattoo's I have even though it seem's you'll toss that in the can
I even know why He led me to the tattoo's I have and it's simple... so many people are turned away from following Christ because of the attitude some Christian's have toward those with tattoo's. Even though Christ made it clear that we are all of the new covenent and not of the old covenent any longer where we have to follow 613 rules to be justified. Sorry, none of us today are over 2000 years old and of the old covenent. If anyone was, they'd be forbidden to mark their flesh and if they did, they'd have to slaughter something and burn it for forgiveness.
Funny how it works cause when Christian's say what you say, or seem to be saying and then are asked in return which of the 613 rules they break... things go silent or the answer is, "I'm not Hebrew, or Israeli, or Jewish, or whatever".... ummm, neither are anyone who is Christian today.
For example... the very verse prior to the one about marking the body talks about cutting the hair of specific parts of the head v27... since you're posting in this forum that is for males only... do you follow this Levitical Law? Do you go up to Chrisitain's and voice an opinion that they are "idiot's" cause they shave their face when it is clear that they ARE NOT to do this based on v27???
Do you have 12 inch long tassles of hair hanging from your temples and a beard just as long?
If not... ummm, what's your point about tattoos again? Except to show us that you pick and choose which Law's you like and don't follow the ones you don't like? Sounds like Legalism to me and that spirit has no place in the life of a Christian who walks with Jesus in this new covenent with God.
Anyway...
I was so led that when I told my daughter that I was planning she told me to hold on and a few days later she showed me what is now on my arm. She had it bouncing around in her head and didn't know why, until she listened to me talk about what was on my spirit. The Holy Spirit put things together clearly.
Guess if I was a prophet and the Lord told me to walk around naked many Chrisitian's today would toss such obedience in the can too

*sigh*
That's what I was afraid of. The Lord didn't speak to me to get it mind you. It's just that lately I been wanting to walk out this whole sermon on the mount deal. I never get passed the "blessed are the poor in spirit" and blessed are they that mourn" part though. I am poor in spirit because I see how hopless I am with the Spirit and I mourn because I fall so short. I was wanted to get in carved into me in a place where I could always see it before I went volcano on some idiot that was stressing me. In guess the real solution is to get this tattooed on my inner man.

I am honored that you used your first post to diss me. Did you see this item and just couldn't resist the urge to get an account just to put me down?
You better make sure that the shirt you have on is made of only one type of fabric:
Lev 19:19

My girlfriend quite likes tattoos and Slug1 is [unfortunately?] correct, an artist skilled enough to do that tattoo justice will be a long wait and quite a bit of money - would also turn out nicely if done properly (not an easy tattoo).
As for these people quoting Leviticus (ignore them)... Just be glad we don't have people in the Apologetics and Evangelism forum claiming Satan planted fossils (at least I think:hmm:); count your blessings :P

Sepherdsword I humbly apologise and seek your forgiveness. I was revved up immediately over this subject `` should I get a tattoo". As a Christian I believe that God does not want us to ink the skin. Tattooing started out as ancient markings to show that one was a slave, piercings as well. I didn't learn this fact in the Bible until some years after becoming saved. I have tats on both sleeves and I am truly ashamed of what I have done to what is not mine to mark. If only I knew before, I would not have done so. Peace be with you.

As a Christian I believe that God does not want us to ink the skin. How the Lord convicts you is not always how He will convict others. If I was a Christian convicted by Lev 19:27 as you are v28... and I got onto you for not being "Christian" because it was my "belief" that a Christian cannot cut the hair at the temples or shave the hair on their chin and that all Christians shouldn't cause of v27... how would you react?
Would you allow me to call you a "name" cause you are not convicted by that verse? Or are you convicted and you do have those 12 inch tassles of hair hanging from your temples and I will shut my mouth
The NT informs us that if one Law is broke then ALL are broke and that is why I said what I did in my other post to you.
This is a discussion so let's discuss. Don't be silent as all Chrisitian's are, or seem to be when I want to discuss this.
I always try to crack a joke by calling this silence... cricket, cricket, cricket.
Somewhere I posted a NO CRICKET sign here on the Porch

That tat would look great, for a couple years. But as intricate as it needs to be, it will look bad very quickly.
Not to mention finding an artist that can do it justice. That piece of work will cost you a few thousand dollars and at least 9 months to do. I think. Most people can only handle 2-3 hours at a time. Then waiting a month or so for it to heal and start again.

Even if's only one color? However, your later post is the one that is the real discourager. You said it would fade after a few years and that is a deal killer.:(
hey, I think I'll just get a leather wrist band with a medallion of the work;)

MAN!!!!
I played drums in a touring Heavy Metal / Hard Rock band for about 18 years.... and I never got a tat or a piercing.
(Truth?.... I was too chicken! LOL!)
I was always afraid it would hurt too much! .... and you know how body builders have a motto, "No pain, no gain".? Well, I have a DIFERENT motto: "No pain.......... sounds good to me!"
Otherwise, I would probably be covered in ink......
Hmmm.... maybe someday..... because I can see how the right tat could be used in sharing the word!

hey, I think I'll just get a leather wrist band with a medallion of the work;)Let me clarify. Not fade per se, but bleed and blend together. In ten years many of the words will be hard to read. Some of the words will become a block. Now the face may still look good, but the words themselves will not.
Sorry to be a downer, but I don't want you to be disappointed in a few years. If I had a pic of my ankle, I could show you what may happen in a few years.
Now I will also add this about the wristband. Think about your future and what you want to do for a living. More and more tattoo'd people are in the mainstream workplace. However, we still get dirty looks sometimes. As made evident by some of the posts in here. All of my work is above the elbow, on my torso and and legs.

comments from all inked and non inked members welcomeI got a tat back when I was younger and lost and full of myself and my mother was horrified that I had done such a thing to myself is how I think she put it. I felt like a heel then and wish it were gone now and it is really nothing offensive, an eagle on my bicep.Just ask your self if you can live with doing something your dad was so adamantly against and answer question 2 honestly for your self.Question 1 is is another matter altogether.Look at the question part and see if you are trying to please men or God.I'm not trying to get down on you for something I did myself, just airing my view from before and after. Now I would like to address whoever it was that said that when Grace came in the form of Jesus it did away with the Law.I must disagree .Jesus himself said he came not to do away with the Law but to fulfill it.

I'm just trying to approach this from another perspective (since everyone else seems to be handling the questions you asked).
(1) Since when do we know what Jesus looked like, since we're living 1970-something years later, with no verbal descriptions or first-hand portraits to base off of. (The back of your Bible doesn't count; where did they come up with their image?) We don't know what He looked like, so why pretend like we do?
(2) Would it be proper to tattoo Jesus' "face" on your body (especially in light of number 1)? The Jews were forbidden to create anything, whether by drawing or crafting, in order to represent God. Wouldn't this be the same thing?

that tattoo would be rad, but hard to pull off on an arm. back peice i bet though, but it'd be like 6k.
(i have golgotha on my right arm)
1)don't think getting a tattoo will 'help' you walk 'the straight line'. just because you (i'm talking about me here) have something Christ related it's not going to help. i know because i tried pulling that. granted there are times when i look down and am like 'man, i shouldn't be doing this' so it is kinda useful, but i'd recommend focusing on something cheaper....like praying!
2)i don't regret that tattoo's but only the money i spent which could have been used on...anything other than me. it's a shame i was 'truley saved' at 25 and not 22, or i'd be up about 10k. (plus my guy kinda screwed me over)
so the moral of my story is, tattoo's rule, get alot, for free. wait, no no, it's spend the money on helping homless or doing things to help build God's kingdom. What i did was save for a year, and now i get to do mission work. though i will add, i've been able to bring up Jesus to people which i woulnd't have been able to without the ink. It's cool to get ransom people be like 'oh what do you have' and then i explain it's where Jesus was killed, to remind me of the price he paid for me....
anywho, goole steve moore, he'll blow you mind. his ink is better than the best painting's by the best artist i've seen. (getmooretattoos.com i think?)
