Hey guys. I am a gamer, my name is Gordon. I like the Wii allot better than the 360 or the other ones. It is COOL, so so cool. Do you play violent games or do you all play Christian games???

Gordon90

In the last couple years I've played:

Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Oblivion
Fallout 3
Fable II
Left 4 dead
Gears of War
Tiger Woods Golf
Call of Duty 1 - 4
Grant Theft Auto - all of them
Madden
Bioshock

There are some I'm sure I've forgotten but those are the ones I can think of right away.

My taste runs mostly to roleplaying, but I also like turn-based strategy and the occasional combat flight sim or first-person shooter.

I'd be interested to try Christian games, but I don't know of any. Even so, I'm not put off by extreme violence or adult themes in games, so long as the games are for adults - I happen to be 54.

PC only, I don't own any consoles... or especially want any. I like to be able to hack, mod and customize my games, and the PC format lends itself much better to that.

A few of my favorites:

Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and Oblivion (Daggerfall too, but it was so buggy I could never finish it)
The Fallout series
The Baldur's Gate series
The SSI Gold Box D&D games

The Civilization series
The Master of Orion series

Max Payne was a fun shooter with adventure elements. Very, very bloody though. I didn't mind.
I used to play a lot of Unreal, Doom and Quake, all single-player, never online.
And before that, Wolfenstein 3D.

My favorite combat flight sim was Red Baron (the ancient DOS version).
Also the Privateer series - a space fighter game with adventure elements.

I've played a lot of World of Warcraft, Star Wars Galaxies, EverQuest, and a few other online RPGs. I'm not currently playing any as they're too much of an endless time sink (though great fun if you do have the time to spare).

this thread makes me want to go back to a couple of games...morrowind and bioshock. I beat morrowind's main quest, but there was so much you could do on that game that I played it for like a year after i beat the quest, just doing side quests and whatnot. Bioshock is a pretty game and atmospheric, but i never finished it and i guess i should..but lately ive been playing these:

1. Farcry 2 - cool game , very open ended , large area to explore...but a little repetitive.

2. Burnout paradise- pure cheese but its really fun and has a huuge city to drive around in, i've only had it for a weeks or so, so maybe it actually sucks lol

3. Red alert 3- I've always been a C&C fan since I was a mere tike, and this is just as fun as any of them, I like how the 3 factions are more different from each other than ever.

4.Pure - Fun atv game...load times are ridiculous, but game is fun

5.Grid:race driver- another awesome driving game, more sim style than arcade tho.

I think I might pickup fallout 3 and the new streetfighter, and maybe crysis warhead, but i had a love hate relationship with crysis as its fun and beautiful, but not very deep....anyway i'm looking forward to prototype and arkham asylum they should both be pretty dope.

How is Farcry 2? I was a huge fan of the original (still play it regularly) but have heard a few negative things - is it worth buying?

I think I'm going to pick up Red Alert 3 in a week or so, Fallout 3 after that.

Rent it first if you can. While its bigger and more "sandboxy" than the original, I find its highly repetitive. Enemies also respawn QUICKLY, so you'll be falling back from a firefight, only to be fired on by an area you cleared moments before. As for the environment... its spectacular, and just like its predecessor, its still loads of fun ripping through the scenery in a jeep.

Most annoying execution of maps I've ever seen in a game.

I think I'm going to pick up Red Alert 3 in a week or so, Fallout 3 after that.

Fallout 3 is also pretty awesome, but gets to feeling repetitive very quickly. Will you be playing it on a PC or 360?

I think that's enough to keep me away then. Maybe when it goes on sale or gets really cheap.

yeah i do agree with hisleast, it can get repetitive, but I haven't had that problem with re-spawns...and the map, well it has things that i like and things I dislike, I like that it is realtime, but i think that they should have an option to toggle to a pause map or some other implementation...overall you should def rent it and see if you can live with the quirks. idk its fun times to me...but i haven't played a big budget game in years that was really worth the price...probably morrowind was the last game that i really felt like it was worth the money...also any C&C because I play those for years, i still play the original red alert from time to time.

I think I'm going to pick up Red Alert 3 in a week or so, Fallout 3 after that.

hit me up when u get RA3 maybe we can get so multiplayer action going on.

edit: oh yeah and FC2 is almost nothing like the original , no trigens or crazy monsters...even though i hated the trigens...i was just baffled by the second half of that game ..so weird. but yeah it was fun and fc2 would be more like the early levels than the later ones. actually crysis is more like the original far cry imo..yep

also, you guys got any pound for pound greats , like the best games for the money as far as cost to replay value an overall awesomeness ratio if that makes sense. maybe top 5 old new doesn't matter..basically games anyone should have and wont regret buying...i'll start i guess

1. Tetris - there are other puzzle games, but i've been literally playing this game since i was like 10 and you probably don't even have to pay for this. i cant really imagine another game that can be so useful a time waster, i usually listen to new music while i play tetris...its the acid test, if i can play tetris and not skip any tracks then its surely a 10/10 album.

2. Gran Tourismo 4 - there are better looking games out there now, games with more snap and crackle, but gran tourismo 4 still has the pop...i think it is the quintessential racing sim packed with everything you could possibly want out of a racing sim...and you can pick it up new for 20 bucks and a song...actually you don't even need the song just the money.

3. Morrowind game of the year edition: for $15 this is something you can play for like a long time, and the pc version still has modders out there for quests and new trees and all that jazz. the main quest is only the tip of the iceberg. okay compared to oblivion which came out in '06 it looks like an old hat, but like your favorite old hat and like i said there are pc mods that make it look slightly better , but this is a game about the journey and immersion and it works ...so buy it or forever wonder what could have been.

4. Orange Box- 2 excellent games and one pretty good one for 20 bucks..that's a winner no matter how you look at it. Half life and portal were classics the day they came out and team fortress is a cool diversion although it doesn't really bring to the table what the other 2 do , its fun with friends. In all actuality you should just get the entire half life series, they are all really great games. Portal is a really funny and inventive game ..so yeah

5. Tiberium Wars- okay this was a difficult decision because this game doesn't really bring anything new to the series, but it also feels like classic C&C with better visuals and maybe some lessons learned, i was going to put generals here instead , because i think that's a really great game, but C&C3 is just more of a C&C game and its a good balance of new graphics and classic gameplay ...if that makes sense...anyway if you like C&C then you should play this one...but actually if you like C&C prolly you already have it.

so there you go 5 cheap games that arent so old that you dont have your system anymore but not so new that you have to pay some stupid amount of money for them

I concur. Dollar-for-dollar, Morrowind was it for me. With the two expansion packs and piles of community generated mods, this game just kept on giving. I still entertain ideas of reinstalling it... I just don't know if I could find many of the hundreds of mods I had installed. It broke my heart that Oblivion was such an unworthy successor.

Also on my list would include.

Master of Orion 2 - I never got tired of the ship designer. :) I also had my most epic and inspirational gaming moment in MOO2, where I ended up exactly one turn away from defeat, then turned it around for a victory.

Civilization 4 - Possibly the greatest successor in the history of gaming sequels. A true masterpiece.

I don't know about all the same ones, since I don't know what you had, but there are a gazillion Morrowind mods available, and they're still making new ones... and they keep getting better. The pace of new mod releases has slowed down of course, since many of the modders and players have moved on to Oblivion, but some stuck with Morrowind or came back to it, and some do both.

Yeah, just a couple of days ago actually. Upgraded to... i7 920, GTX 285 and 6GB corsair dominator. Ridiculous. That was coming from... Amd XP 2700+, Radeon 9500 and 768mb RAM. I thought Crysis was boring and linear. Actually getting to run around with no hiccups... I love this game.

man i'm a little jealous, that's one of those upgrades where you can really see the difference!!Crysis and some of the music software i use were the reasons I last upgraded...anyhow the first half of Crysis is def tons of fun and are really what makes the game have any replay value, I still think the second half with the aliens is linear and a little boring. I hear that warhead is cool too I might pick it up. I'm just dreading the next crytek engine, I cant afford to upgrade again, but luckily there is serious competition in the GPU market. anyway congrats on ur new system

It took quite a while to save up for the system, a lot of overtime -.- but at least it was worth it for a week or two before something better comes out, lol. I'm really enjoying the competition between ATI and nVidia... Hopefully ATI will pick up the pace and nVidia won't be able to walk over its user base with ridiculous prices (kind of like Intel and AMD).

I was going to pick up Warhead but apparently no store in the city is carrying it presently (Why, I must ask!). So looks like I'll have to order it online, yuck. I was going to buy Red Alert 3 yesterday but again no one had it went I went into town *shrug, lame.

I can see Crytek killing everyone's systems with physics ;{ Ah well! Maybe one day I'll be able to upgrade again. Won't be any time soon.

I'm more of a Rome / Holy Rome kind of guy. Rome's unique unit stomps the early stages of gameplay and while they're unique building isn't the most useful, its strokes my ego by providing more great people. Holy Rome's unique building is perfect for my preference for massive sprawling empires (-75% maintenance!!!) and their unique unit is a midgame dominator. If I'm going Holy Rome I usually take mixed leaders and grab Augustus (BTS version).

As for the Fall From Heaven mod, I've thought about it but haven't been able to tear myself away from vanilla gameplay yet. I haven't even played any of the BTS scenarios. I've got this strange compulsion to play through all the map styles on huge worlds and epic timelines. One of the most surprisingly fun games was a huge/epic "highlands" map. Its like playing Civ inside a maze, and all the mountain ranges make for a really cool defensive game.
