So my wife got hit backing out of the garage today. Nobody hurt, and no real damage to the car except a nice dark scuff mark on the back bumper. She took it to a body shop and they gave her some "scratch remover" to work with. Its a cream you squirt into a rag and rub into the scratches.
Now its been a long long many years since shop class... but aren't scratches long indentations into the material? Isn't a scratch removing or displacing material? But I put some elbow grease into it and sure enough, they started disappearing.
What kind of sorcery is this?! What kind of devil's craft have I let my hands partake in? HAS THE WHOLE WORLD GONE MAD!?

I"m just guessing, but could it be some kind of filler putty?

That's what I thought too... except how does it match the color so perfectly.
I'll tell you how...

Yeah, I'm not so sure, but maybe it can imprint the color of the surrounded, non-damaged, parts?

It's pretty basic stuff, really. The eye of newt and wing of bat act as the primary fillers, while the chameleon's blood allows it to match any color of the rainbow. Didn't they teach you any of that in shop class?

That is great! Thanks for the laugh guys!
I thought i was the only one who still have vehicles with steel bumpers :)
I don't know how that stuff works. It is like it removes the dirt from the scratch and then fills the little gaps with some kind of wax.
Like the crack remover from windshields. I bought one of those from Walmarts and could not believe it actually worked :o
No more rock crack (at least i could not see it anymore). I am told that the glue fills the crack so that the light does not reflect off of the break. I don't know but that would good enough to satisfy me
