View Full Version : Men's Ministry

Hello Brothers!

How about a little brainstorming?

See my church is awesome, filled with wonderful people and some of the best friends I have ever known. Even though I turned from God for a long time, I really have been a Christian most of my life. However, with the exception, of churches my father belonged to, I never had a true church home until now.

I have been here close to three years now, and I could not imagine what my life would be like without the people there.

One thing bothers me though, and that is the lack of laymen leadership when it comes to field ministry. I feel our men need to lead more and not allow themselves to become complacent.

To that end I need your help. What are some things that you feel would be a good men's ministry for laymen?

I sthought perhaps we could do bag lunches for the homeless ( not many here though) or an emergency 'repair' service for our elderly.

Any thoughts?

Doing work for the elderly in the church sounds like a great idea. I'm betting there's plenty of need there and they'll certainly appreciate it too. Many people would surely be blessed in such a ministry.

Hey brother

I would suggest that you look for the closest chapter of Habitat For Humanity for starters. Another suggestion is find a local softball league and join up. It gives the guys a chance to not only witness through example(no matter how good or bad the team is), but to have great fellowship with one another.

Thanks for the ideas Brothers!

Habitat is a great idea, though we already have a church-wide participation group.

I like the softball idea as well, though I confess I am looking for something year 'round.

Thanks for your suggestions!

We have a men's breakfast. Get fed and get your spirit fed. It's a manly breakfast, so everybody loves it. We read chapter out of the Bible and then discuss. We then pray over prayer requests.

I am also part of a mowing ministry. We mow the lawn and upkeep the church.

Mowing for the elderly during the summer and shoveling for them during the winter would save them a lot on their fixed income also.

Another ministry that we have been discussing with the schools around here in East Texas is for the men from the churches to go into the school and read to the young classes. The teachers say that the kids need to see more male figures that care about them and reading to the classes is a great way to help give a teacher a break and be a positive influence to the kids. Granted you must read from a group of books that the teacher picks but you get to tell them where your from ;) (what church)

The best ministry is one that is wrought by GOD!

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Before one goes hapazarding, use 1 John 1:9 and ask God on what course you should take; doing what YOU want and not what GOD wants is dangerous. Sometimes I have the urge to write what "I" want instead of God's plan, but, the Lord's rod always is sharp and fast! (I feel sorry for those who are undergoing 2 Peter 3:9 - but it's those things that God pushes you to LOOK towards him, I am glad that God is just and pushes me in the correct direction).
