I learned from my daughter today that this was the case at her middle school. Is this common place in the US?

I explained to her that being punished for doing what is right is a good thing, and that they did the same things to Jesus.
Told her that she is blessed when the world hates her because of Jesus.

I also suggested she bring her bible to school and see if they take that away from her?
That way she can tell all her friends how they don't want you to read the bible.

Standing on the Word....reading Ephesians 6 tells us what we have to have to go to battle with principalities and powers....we can't do anything without God!!!! Keep the Faith and be faithful to the Lord....sounds like she is doing this already!!! Satan surely does not want our youth to love the Lord or to tell others about HIM...I mean, look at most of the youth today, as well as adults!!!! So, that's why it's so important to start early with children in their teaching and understanding the Word; otherwise, the world will get to them first!!!:pp:pray::hug:

I would suggest that you contact the Center for Law and Justice. They are a group of lawyers fighting for Christians rights through the court system. They should be able to help you know what your rights really are concerning the Bible and religious symbols.

While I definately don't agree with the schools rule about banning symbols, they're not asking people to do someting against the Word... the Word doesn't tell us to wear moon/sun/star symbols.

I'd call the school and see what the policy is exactly.

Wow. That is discrimination...what would they say if someone wore a pentagram? I have had a much different experience myself in public schools and universities. People may have teased me but they have, for the most part, been kind. Tolerance tends to be for people who think like them, forget the religious and the right-wingers. I am very left wing socially ( right morally) but I have found this to be true almost everywhere.:B

I'm pretty sure that it's unconstitutional.

There is freedom of religion but also separation of church and state, but I agree...freedom of speech, and a t shirt is not harassment...seriously I would not bother someone wearing a pentagram sorry to use the word...I may engage in respectful conversation...:hmm:

In fact I do often, all kinds. The key is respect, on *both* sides.

In truth there is no constitutional separation of church and state.

Public schools are NOT allowed to discrimanate against religious views. They can, however place reasonable restrictions on outside viewpoints.

I.E. Student converstations in the classroom must be about the subjuect at hand.

Regarding religious symbols- The school is not allowed to ban a student from wearing a symbol just because it is religious. They can however place a ban on all outside symbols across the board.

I.E. If "Sally" has the right to wear a necklace with a heart on it to school, then "Jenny" has the equal right to wear one with a cross. However, rthe school does have the right to ban all necklaces. They absolutely do NOT have the right to ban only religious necklaces

I hope that this helps.

Borean, God says there should not be acceptance of other religions...that is why in the OT story after story tells us that the nation fell, because they didn't wipe out all the worldly religions.
I don't say anything about people not wearing pentagrams, but I do say things postiive, like May God bless you today.

Supreme Court ruled that students can wear religious symbols. I can't think of the case, but it was originally in the 60's in reference to protest symbols, but later upheld in the last decade to extend to religious symbols (basically, the precedence is that a student's rights don't end when they walk through a school door).

If you chose to, you could challenge this.

Was it Tinker something? (the case you're referring to in the 60's)

I dont really understand why everyone has any problem with Symboles being banned - I think it's a good thing, and this is my reason:

ALL religions has Symbols, except Christianity. Nowhere in God's Word God tells us to wear a cross or a heart or anything. (I'm not talking now about the breastplate etc. - That shows of things in the future and now - it's not to wear now anymore)

There is however something that can be broad forth - it's the fruit that meets the repentance, and the fruit that will be evedince of the state of your heart.

Bear the good fruit of the spirit, the evedince of the Holy Spirit, and dont worry about symboles etc.

So this is why I say it's a good thing that symboles gets banned - They cannot bann you for bearing the good fruit of the spirit, but they can bann you for wearing some other religions symboles etc. Good thing - no more other religions symbloles etc.

Other people cannot be saved because of Christians wearing crosses etc, but their lives can be touched and good seed can be sown by wearing the fruit of the Spirit as in Gal 5:22

The system tries to get to Christianity by banning symboles - They are actually doing Christianity a BIG favour, because Christianity's symboles are the good fruits of the spirit, no physical symboles like the other religions - Unless one of the so called "Christians" believe in power of wood crosses and metal crosses etc.

I agree with Psalm. A lot of times Christians will wear 'Christian stuff' trying to show everybody to see how 'Christian' they are. But real Christianity is able to show itself without the need for symbols or Christian clothing.

I'm not saying that she shouldn't wear necklaces with crosses on them, but that she doesn't need to, to show Christ. :)

One good thing that may happen out of wearing a Christian simbol is that someone who is seeking may see it and ask about your faith. I'll admit this probably doesn't happen often, but if one person is helped in this manner it's worth it.
