I just read a reply to a post which mentioned keeping a prayer journal to remember prayers we have made and ways in which God has answered them. I love the idea!! I have been so excited when I see little things in my day that I feel are Gods way of speaking to us.... of answering prayers (maybe not even my prayers).
I believe that this may be a testimony to his love and goodness in our lives that I can have as a reminder in harder times and even leave for my daughter to read someday
Any more ideas, examples, suggestions, stories you all have about prayer journaling I would love to hear!

I started one last week.
I wanted to try something new so I found a package of notebook paper. After I fill up a page, I add it to a three ring binder. There's something neat about writing on a single sheet of paper. I guess it helps me feel more like I'm writing a letter.
Writing helps me focus my thinking and not get distracted.
I write my questions, thoughts, feelings, just whatever is going on in my life to God.
It really helps me check my attitude and to see things differently.
I also use my journal for Bible study. I write down verses and use writing to help me meditate on them.
Sometimes I ask for things too although I don't really have a prayer list yet.

I used to write bible verses on index cards and tape them to the bathroom mirror when my children were young. Everytime we went to the bathroom (they were VERY young) as we washed our hands, "we" would read the bible verse out loud. By the end of a few days all of us had memorized the verse and we would move on to another.
By the way, I still have a whole lot of those index cards. They're all yellow now and frayed around the edges but the kids (now 31 & 28) still know a whole lot of verses by heart. :pp

For years I kept a "prayer notebook". Intercession is such a pleasure (and a gift and a responsibility!). Then I fell out of the habit- filled the notebook and failed to get another. But what an extraordinary blessing to look back and say to myself, Hey! I forgot I ever prayed for that umpteen years ago- and look what the Lord did!!!
I recently bought another notebook. And I can't wait to see how the Lord will bless me through it, yet again.
I encourage my kiddos to do the same. We also use index cards (on the frig) with Bible verses, and it really is awesome. But this idea of keeping track of your prayers...different from the journal that I keep of my walk with the Lord...it's such a good one. Also really helpful when praying for folks you haven't met, or don't know well. Writing names and situations helps me remember to actually pray for people who ask for prayer, and not just have my usual good intentions. !
Just want to thank you for starting this thread- a good reminder for me, and a good reminder to remind my kids to do the same! ;)
Blessings, friend! -Lori

Journaling and I are old friends. When I was young I started my prayer journaling gradually at first and included mainly a few scriptures which I found meaningful at the time and prayers. And I did this off and on a few days each week for years. Eventually I began to include more thoughts, significant scriptures, and prayers and also wrote it down whenever I felt a desire in my heart or what I thought was a call..to serve in some new ministry. For the past twenty years the journal has become a part of my daily life. Last year in our church we did the bible-in-a-year plan so I combined that with journaling.
What I appreciate most is going back and looking over what I wrote and I do this every so often. And I can give thanks so often for the prayers that God answered and remind Him of those I am still waiting on.
I sure do recommend this to anyone..:)
I have used mainly plain spiral notebooks for my journaling; but now there are some lovely blank journals you can buy at a reasonable price and use for journaling some of which even include scriptures and are available at Christian book stores. Lately I have bought those when they have gone on sale especially since spiral notebooks cost much more than they used to. I always write in pencil since then I can easily erase when I need to. The thing is to use what works best for you.
Journaling can become a good way for us to grow closer in our relationship to the Lord and a way to search and know the scriptures. :)
