I have installed the HTMLCompiler with the BibleDatabase software on an XP machine. I have used the software before, but it has been a long time since I set it up on a new machine and tried to get it working. I am getting the following error messages, as I try to run it (and I do have the KJV installed too):

An Error has occured.
Title : HTMLCompiler
App Path : C:\Program Files\HTMLCompiler
Software Ver : 5.1.0.
Module : Populate Combos.
Error Number : 6
Description : Overflow.
Extra Info :

If the error persists, please report it at: xxx@BibleDatabase.org
PLEASE SUPPLY A FULL DESCRIPTION OF THE ERROR,

I would appreciate help in this. Also, I was wondering, will this software be developed further, to be able to run on Windows Vista? I think it is good software and I hope you will continue to develop it.

I don't know if this will help, but I ran an integrity check in the BibleDatabase program and it came up with the following results:

CRC Calculation for: King James Version(C:\Program Files\BibleDatabase\Modules\Bible\b_kjv.txt) in progress. This could take a minute or two depending on the speed of your computer. Please stand by...
Could not find CRC_b_kjv.txt. There is therefore no way of knowing what the CRC should be.
The new CRC is: 188714430389488689

Done!

In the HTML Bible Compiler program (version 5.1), all I get is cboBibleName for the "Select a Bible to convert to HTML" and no other options in the drop down.

I think I figured out the problem. I needed the BibleDatabase 4.0.3 instead of the 5.1, for the HTML Compiler to work:

http://bibleforums.org/forum/showthread.php?t=93894&highlight=install+compiler

I actually recognize the 4.0.3. What a relief. I knew something didn't look right, when I opened the 5.1. And I remember that I was supposed to install the KJV and run the BibleDatabase program at least once before the HTML Compiler.

It's all coming back to me now!! ;)

looks like you figured this out on your own :)

Thank you! Yes, I made some progress and got it working. I was wondering, will this software be developed further, to be able to run on Windows Vista? (Eventually, Microsoft will phase out Windows XP and offer no more support, forcing everyone to upgrade.)

And have you considered making it an open source project?

Maybe .... there was a time when I was all fired up about this project but in recent years, I have become so disillusioned with what happens in the corporate word of Bibles I've been tempted to quit several times:

In the past year alone we've been forced to remove or lock several Bibles after receiving threatening letters of legal action from the "owners" - yeah, the cheek of it, they have the nerve to call it "their intellectual property" (in those words).

The Bible is big money and there are huge corporations profiting from their sales. I won't mention specific names, but some of the biggest modern translations are owned by the same people who run many of the worlds casinos and porn TV channels. It's deplorable.

So, maybe. I just need to get past the anger.

BTW, I've decided to publish a key for HTMLCompiler so it's free now. There is one on the website. Here's another:

Name: free compiler
Key: MXWINKJWBPZZ7CFSGLAZP
