Why is it that you can tell someone something, and they don't remember it the next minute?
Stony ground, deaf ears, hard hearts, cares of the world, and Satan who steals away the word. Jesus explained this particular situation in Mark Chapter Four...the parable of the sower.
Yesterday, I preached a funeral for a 59 year old man. As I preached, I could see some faces that were receiving the word of the Lord. I could also see some "stony" looking faces, and some looks of disdain. It sure is a discouraging task, at times, to sow the seeds of God, and to see hardly any results.
One person in particular hardly remembers what you preached..the word was snatched away by the enemy.
However, it's worth all the labor of sowing if just one person's life is changed.
Keep on sowing...your labor is not in vain, and you will reap a harvest after awhile.

Amen! I've got a couple of friends who don't know the Lord. It's been an uphill battle, as they would listen to what I had to say, then forget. The past few months though, I've seen changes in these people. More open, more willing to start the conversation. Changes in attitude. And it would seem, come to the realization that I am actually serious about what I say and about my faith.
Praise God!:)

Remember that God does the drawing of a heart. We sometimes get frustrated when a person doesn't "hear", but God knows when the time is right. As you said, keep sowing. Even when our efforts seem in vain, God's word does not return to him void. This could be the very moment that hard heart softens and accepts God's salvation plan for their life.
With my own son, I thought it would be years for him to turn his life back to God. When I least expected it, he was crying in the altar. We weren't even at our home church and he hadn't been attending church in so long. My parents were the same way. I had no idea the work the Lord was doing in their hearts and suddenly they were born again believers. So that's right, keep sowing, trusting and believing.

Ps 126:5 They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
Ps 126:6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
Hang on to that "shall doubtless!"

Thank you for posting this, I really needed to hear that.

Appreciate your sharing of this experience which, at some time or other, some of us have also sensed happening especially in a group such as you mention who have come mainly as a gesture of respect to the memory of the one who died.
Jesus told us in the parable of the sower that the seed of the Word does not always fall on fertile ground. Some ground isn't ready for seed yet.i.e., the ground where the seed falls differs according to the openess and readiness of the heart of each individual. But..we don't know who will and who will not receive for sure..so, yes, it is always best to continue sharing the Word when we receive God given opportunity to do so.
God bless you and may the Holy Spirit continue to encourage you in all you do for others. :amen: :saint:
