When I'm feeling down and just need something to make me feel better I listen to the old gospel music. I recorded Alan Jackson from the tv when he was playing on stage and singing the songs from his Precious Memories album. It just puts me in the best mood to sing along!
Also, I will go outside and sit under a shade tree and just talk to God. I pretend he is sitting right there beside me (which He really is) and just tell him everything that is on my mind. I'ts amazing how much better you feel.
I also know folks have things in their lives that are so bad you feel like you can't take it anymore but God is always there to see us through.
My Mother always had a saying when I would tell her of something that was wrong in my life, she would always say to me,
"And this too shall pass" Something that seems so bad today, may be gone tomorrow.

:o
That is so close to what I do..
I listen to a selection of contemporary and traditional 'praise and worship' music.
It improves my mood, and many times I will find that I sing / hum / clap / etc. along.
I also, goto a place where it can just be me and God, and have a conversation with Him, and / or read The Book aka His Book aka The Bible.
I also, know people who have it WAY worse then I do.
And there faith and hope keeps me going as well.

I feel that being in nature is great. Drinking some hot tea and just having one on one time with God is awesome. I love sitting outside when I can and if there's a breeze it makes you feel like God it touching my face. It's great!
Generally though just turning off everything and being still is great thereapy for me too.
I love this song:
This Too Shall Pass by: Yolanda Adams
Verse 1:
In the middle of the turbulence surrounding you
These trying times are so hard to endure
In the middle of what seems to be your darkest hour
Hold fast your heart and be assured
This too shall pass
Like every night that?s come before it
He?ll never give you more than you can bear
This too shall pass
So, in this thought you?ll be comforted
For it?s in his hand
This too shall pass
Oh yes
..........
Verse 2:
The father knows the tears you cry before they fall
He feels you pain his heart and yours are one
The father knows that sorrow?s heavy chains are strong,
but with his strength you?ll overcome
For this too shall pass
Like every night that?s come before it
He?ll never give you more than you can bear
This too shall pass
So, in this thought you?ll be comforted
For it?s in his hand
This too shall pass
..........................
Workout:
So set your eyes
Set them on the mountain
And lift your head up to the sky
And let his arms of love surround you
Let him take you to the other side
This too shall pass
Like every night that?s come before, before it
I?m so glad he never gives you nor me
More than you can bear
This too shall pass
So, in this thought you?ll be comforted
For it?s in his hand
This too shall pass
It?s in his hand
This too shall pass
Oh, oh it shall pass

Great thread!!
My personal way sounds kinda silly but it really works for me. At the end of one of "those" days where I feel unable to cope anymore, I take a long hot bath, climb into bed and as I go to sleep, I recite the 23rd Psalm, visualizing me with Jesus as my Shepherd. I walk beside the quiet waters, I lay down in green pastures, I walk through the valley of the shadow of death with no fear because He is there guiding me. I sit at the table He has prepared for me, I drink from the cup He has filled to overflowing.
As I said, it sounds sort of childish but it has kept me sane through a couple of very, very bad patches.

I pray, first and foremost. Because God always knows why I feel the way I do, and I so I seek His input, always.
Also, listening to worship music helps, as well as reading the Bible and God-related books.
Sometimes yoga helps, or just getting moving and pampering myself a little bit. Especially if it's physical and my body just needs some recharging.
Of course, spending time with hubby and the kids, or calling my girlfriend always helps. As well as the fellowship on this site. There are some very godly, very neat people here. :)

I actually have not much chance of feeling down...... If I do, my husband notices it almost immediately and puts everything he does aside to talk to me about it and trying to solve what's bothering me...... we have problems enough, we don't need me to be down on top of it...... after we talk for a while, where my husband directs me to Bibleverses, I am usually out of the "down-mode" and he hugs me..... this all is usually enough to get me back positive again......
If this doesn't work he usually puts on some Christian music and I'll get "back to normal" too......
I have a lot of pain and when I am down the pain is much worser than when I am "up"..... so it's important to change that mood immediately....... thank God I have a husband who knows and recognizes that immediately......
Love you all,
Mieke

There is a song, a new song, The Revelation song, By Kari Jobe, It lifts me up to exalt My Father, The worship ministry Played and sang this song at my church, the minute I got home I pulled up the chords and now me and my family Exalt the Father in praise and worship.
Worthy is the,
Lamb who was slain
Holy, Holy, is He
Sing a new song, to Him who sits on
Heaven's Mercy Seat
[Repeat 2x]
(Chorus)
Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing:
Praise to the King of Kings!
You are my everything,
And I will adore You…!
Yeah!
Clothed in rainbows, of living color
Flashes of lightning, rolls of thunder
Blessing and honor, strength and
Glory and power be
To You the Only Wise King,
Yeah
(Chorus)
Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come, yeah
With all creation I sing:
Praise to the King of Kings!
You are my everything,
And – I - will - adore You!
Yeah!
Filled with wonder,
Awestruck wonder
At the mention of Your Name
Jesus, Your Name is Power
Breath, and Living Water
Such a marvelous mystery
Yeah...
(Chorus)
Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come, yeah
With all creation I sing:
Praise to the King of Kings!
You are my everything,
And – I - will - adore You!
Holy, Holy, Holy
Is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come,
With all creation I sing:
Praise to the King of Kings!

Yeah? well I play it on guitar! lol :D, just kidding, I love that song. After we sing the song, we talk about how it makes us feel, we call those moments "quiet times" for me and my family. And it brings us great peace.
http://bibleforums.org/forum/showthread.php?t=178632 I did get a chance to see it and I personally prefer the Kari Jobe version.
God Bless you.

I pray and ask God for a new sense of peace and direction. Sometimes I go out on our enclosed porch where my kitties join me. One jumps up on her wooden scratching barrel out there and purrs away. She give me great comfort..while I am reading my bible I rub her little neck..so she gets the benefits too. ;)

Either I go to the park and spend time alone, talking out loud to the Lord, or I talk to my wife about it. Most of the time, knowing I'm not alone is enough to pick me up.

Kneeling at the altar and crying out to God. In the midst of all those tears, I feel His love and peace fall over me.
Then I will worship and praise Him with some great music.

Psalms.
:)
But, when I am down, sad... it is often something I want to be in, when I have some reason for it. It can be critical to feel that.
However, for "not being able to take it anymore", that is another matter. Resting can help, praying to trust in God, should help.
What happens "out there" is different from what happens "in here", in our hearts. We can get opinions about what is happening outside of our heart, and those opinions effect events: at the very least, people can magnify problems or not see the larger scope of them, and it is critical then to step back and see that.
Everything will be okay.
I have been through great turmoil myself: ultimately hope in God for salvation is what brings me through. Trust in Him. Trust not in our own goodness even, nor even our own faith: but that He is that Good and Merciful. And that is faith.
Jonah had the same faith about God, even over a city he hated, Nineveh. We should seek to understand that changing faith he had -- even if his attitude was so poor.

Nothing ever works for me except waiting for the LORD to bring me out of my trouble. I refuse to give in to despair while I'm waiting, and am confident He will comfort me in His time. He has never failed me.
Ps 27:14 "Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD."
Ps 37:7 "Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass."
Ps 40:1 "I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry."
Ps 130:5 "I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope."

I'm an old pro at bad days. ;)
I love to listen to my Gospel Metal or Gospel Rap, Bible study, take a nice hot bath. I eat something wholesome and nourishing.
I have a list of things that make me happy, and I try to do at least a few of them. I also make sure I'm eating properly and I have enough sleep.

I thought I didn't really have a particular thing I do when I'm down but then I realized I do. It is sort of a recitation but it isn't rigid, just what comes to mind at the bad time. Like....I am just a pilgrim passing through, this is not my home, He will set all things right one day and restore everything, etc., etc.

Thank you so very much for posting this piece by Yolanda Adams. I've been in the midst of great turmoil in my life and this has helped me greatly. Its now time to stop feeling sorry for myself and get on with life. Its so easy to tell someone "This too shall pass" then telling yourself. Its time to get on with my life.
